Calibre – Easily Manage & Convert eBooks for your BlackBerry for Free Posted: 12 Apr 2011 03:18 PM PDT One of the things I truly love to do on my BlackBerry is read books. The thing is RIM does not offer a proper way to do this out of the box and developers have been keeping us a bit wanting for solutions. In the past I have told you about my favorite MobiPocket Reader which has truly gone downhill since Amazon acquired them and released the Kindle. Now that OverDrive has released a free ePub eBook reader for BlackBerry I am back in the game! One of the main questions people had about OverDrive is: How do I convert eBooks, documents, and even news to a format I can read in OverDrive or even MobiPocket on my BlackBerry? There is a simple answer to that question and it is called Calibre. It is a free opensource application for Windows, Mac, and Linux that helps you manage and convert eBooks for your BlackBerry and many other devices. Calibre performs four essential functions for me thought there are many other uses for it:
If you like reading eBooks on your BlackBerry or want to get more into it I highly recommend checking out Calibre at this link. Let me know if you find any other good BlackBerry eBook reading tools or resources! If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Dude, Where Are My BlackBerry PlayBook Ads? Speculate! Posted: 12 Apr 2011 10:02 AM PDT I am really starting to get a bit worried here. The BlackBerry PlayBook launches in seven days on April 19th and I have yet to see a single BlackBerry PlayBook ad. This has me wondering what RIM's playbook is for the PlayBook launch. I have spoken to a few friends about it and I have to say it is very odd that RIM has been so hush about what is truly a HUGE announcement for them. Bishop5 pointed out in the comments that we should put up a post asking all of you to speculate on what reason RIM could have for such a quiet build up to the BlackBerry PlayBook launch. Don't they want potential customers to know when it launches or even what a BlackBerry PlayBook is? Here are some of my ideas sorted in no particular order:
Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments! If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

BlackBerry Touch Monaco/Monza Caught on Video Posted: 12 Apr 2011 09:44 AM PDT We have seen quite a few leaks about the upcoming BlackBerry Touch codename Monaco (Verizon CDMA) and Monza (GSM) including pictures but this is the first video I know of. Piotr from BBNews.pl let me know about a video posted by artxenonart on YouTube showing off the BlackBerry Touch. There is nothing crazy new about the device beyond what we already know but its nice to see it in action. It still looks like the picture of the "BlackBerry Storm 3" we snagged back in September. Desktop Video Link | Mobile Video LinkI am not sure what language the video is in but let us know if you understand it! If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

RIM Releases The Two BES IT Policies for the BlackBerry PlayBook Posted: 12 Apr 2011 07:32 AM PDT Until now we only knew about one BES IT policy that would be available for the BlackBerry PlayBook at launch. It turns out there is a second but it is sort of inconsequential. The main IT policy sets if users are allowed to use the BlackBerry Bridge to connect to the BlackBerry Smartphone. The second allows the BlackBerry PlayBook to generate and send log files to the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center. RIM has offered up both in a ZIP file for admins to download and import into BES 4.x and 5.x. You can download the new BES IT Policies for the BlackBerry PlayBook at this link. Descriptions of these policies are below: Enable BlackBerry Bridge This policy can be found under the BlackBerry Bridge category when configuring an IT Policy after the file below has been applied to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If you set this rule to Yes, a user can run BlackBerry Bridge and use it to connect a companion device (for example, the BlackBerry PlayBook) to the BlackBerry device. If you set this rule to No, a user cannot run BlackBerry Bridge and cannot use it to connect a companion device to the BlackBerry device. If you do not set this rule, a default value of Yes will be used. To import the IT policy rule definitions, complete the steps below for the appropriate version of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Will BlackBerry ID Be The Death of BlackBerry OS and App Leaks? Posted: 12 Apr 2011 06:56 AM PDT Over the last few weeks we have seen a bit of RIMs vision on how they plan on integrating BlackBerry ID closer into the BlackBerry OS. This had me thinking over the weekend what this could possibly mean for leaked BlackBerry OS betas and the apps that are extracted from them. Currently RIM could really track down who is using leaked OS versions through PIN numbers or BIS but they choose not to. Once RIM integrates the sort of "single sign on" provided by BlackBerry ID will they be more proactive? Think about it for a second. For example, in the beta zone RIM could simply integrate BlackBerry ID and authorize certain apps based on your ID. They could also do the same thing with BlackBerry OS beta builds simply authorizing them only on certain logins. Don't get me wrong I am sure Hybrid builders could find a way around "Frankenstein-ing" an OS update out of its parts but its an interesting concept. I have always said it is ridiculous that RIM almost 10 logins/profiles for different systems for customers ranging from BBM, Forums, BIS, Developers, App World Vendors, etc and they need to consolidate them. The question is what will they do with the consolidation. What do you think? Will BlackBerry ID mark the downfall of leaked OS builds and apps? RIM Theme Idea Contest for Retail Channel Partners and Reps Posted: 12 Apr 2011 05:55 AM PDT Now that the BlackBerry PlayBook is coming out in multiple retail channels RIM has a much larger pool of retail reps. One of our tipsters let us know that they are trying to encourage interest in the BlackBerry Platform by offering up a $500 AMEX gift card to the retail rep who comes up with the best BlackBerry theme idea. That theme would then be developed by BlackBerry and offered to retail reps exclusively for 3 months after which it will be released to all in App World. Kind of cool to finally start getting themes from RIM again no matter what their source. If you happen to be a convincible retail rep I recommend trying out the challenge by submitting your theme concept at this link below: Let us know what you suggest if its good!
