| FAQ: Transfer Files to the BlackBerry PlayBook Over Wi-Fi or USB Posted: 28 Apr 2011 03:15 PM PDT While file sharing and transferring to a BlackBerry PlayBook may not be a challenge for the technically savvy I know quite a few people who need tips and pointers. I was in the middle of writing up a great article on how to connect and transfer files to a BlackBerry PlayBook over Wi-Fi and one of my friends at RIM pointed out that RIM already has a pretty nice guide. I even learned a thing or two on how to get it to show up as a hard drive on a Mac over USB until Desktop Manager for Mac is updated to support the PlayBook. RIM does a nice job of explaining how to connect to the BlackBerry PlayBook file system over Wi-Fi or USB (from both a Mac and PC). Keep in mind that when you are transferring large files like videos I would recommend not doing that over Wi-Fi since it could take an inordinate amount of time. On the other hand Wi-Fi transfers are perfect for music, images, documents, and other files. | Free App! sTamped for BlackBerry Posted: 28 Apr 2011 10:31 AM PDT sTamped for BlackBerry is a nifty little application, though there have been several like it available in the past, that adds some “stamps” to photos that you have on your BlackBerry. Some of these are pretty cute and its FREE! Go grab it while it is still free Here ****Note**** It does look as though the app is free, and they include some free stamps with the app, but if you want additional stamps you have to pay $1.99 for each stamp. Posted: 28 Apr 2011 10:02 AM PDT **Update** We have had several of our readers comment and let us know that the issue, and only with some people, is that Verizon started blocking (as in it worked before and not today) bridge access via Bluetooth. Many of the commenters below say that this cannot happen and I am unsure. We are bringing you the information we receive as we receive it. I am hoping that this is not true, and won’t be able to verify for myself until later on tonight, but if anyone has any experience on this please let us know in the comments or in the forums. This could be a real blow to the PlayBook if carriers decide that they have a responsibility to milk even more money out of us just to use the base functionality of our device. Do they really expect everyone to pay for data on a BB AND a seperate connection for a tablet? Come on Verizon.

| Canyon Defense: Fun Flash Game Works Great on Playbook Posted: 28 Apr 2011 09:15 AM PDT I haven’t had much chance to look for fun flash games for the PlayBook, but I came across a gem on MiniClip.com that works great on the PlayBook browser. I haven’t been able to figure out other games that require a keyboard for movement (although I’ve heard some online games actually makes use of the PlayBook’s accelerometer), but this one is only controlled by left clicking the mouse so it works nicely with the PlayBook’s touchscreen. The only glitch I found is that you are unable to confirm where you place towers, so be careful where you tap. There are a bunch of unlockable features and cool powerups. | Press Release: RIM Announces Award Finalists for BlackBerry World Posted: 28 Apr 2011 09:12 AM PDT Rim announced the finalists for the Wireless Achievement Awards today, and although the winners will not be announced for another week or so, we can get a good look at some of the competition. It looks as though there are some pretty cool developments out there, including the Sherwin Williams ColorSnap Application. | aMail Steps Up When RIM Falls Down? PlayBook Email! Posted: 28 Apr 2011 08:33 AM PDT aiFlex developed aMail, which is a native email client for the BlackBerry PlayBook that can support up to 10 accounts using various forms of authentication and easy to use presets for your favorite email services (gmail, hotmail etc.) The application has been submitted to AppWorld and is as of this posting, still awaiting approval. Check out a preview video for aMail – aMail for PlayBook More ScreenShots and Features List after the break- aMail looks as though they have some pretty neat stuff going on with this application, my only concern is that these third party developers are spending an awful lot of time working on applications that RIM has promised will be out soon. It would be a shame to see the native app launch before aMail receives approval.

It looks like T-Mobile fixed that or supports the device now because all the sudden my MMS pictures appear normal now instead of a really small image. So if you are running a BlackBerry Torch on T-Mobile network let us know if you noticed the same thing if not try resending your service books and see if that takes care of it. One of the areas that RIM has not yet opened up for developers is the ability to send information from the BlackBerry PlayBook to your BlackBerry phone. I know for a fact that RIM is working on a way for developers to do this and have heard rumors that they have been considering using your BlackBerry ID, PIN, Push Alert, Bridge, and other ways.
Until then Poynt is working on bypassing that limitation by creating their own "Send to Phone" feature. With this feature you will be able to use Poynt on your BlackBerry PlayBook and send an actionable alert to your BlackBerry phone. The feature uses RIM's Push API to send the alert and will be used to allow you to call, add a number to your address book, and use the directions feature on your phone.
