Application Resource Monitor Now Available for All OS 7.1 BlackBerrys Posted: 30 Aug 2012 01:44 AM PDT We first heard of Application Resource Monitor back in May of this year and it was a novel concept for RIM. The app would shut down offending and battery consuming apps before they could cause major harm. The only catch was that the app only shipped on OS versions after a certain date which many carriers have not updated to officially. That means users have been left without Application Resource Monitor. Earlier this month RIM released Application Resource Monitor in the Beta Zone for all OS 7.1+ devices and now Debbie let us know it has been rolled out to App World. That means you can go an pick up Application Resource Monitor free in App World at this link. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

If you have been looking for a quick way to double your daily battery life on your BlackBerry 7 device (at least most of them) then this is the deal for you. The BlackBerry J Series Extra Battery Bundle which includes an extra battery and external charger is selling for a super low price on Amazon. This battery works for the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930, Bold 9790, and Torch 9850/9860. It allows you to charge a second J-M1 original battery while also charging your BlackBerry phone using the Y cable. Keep in mind this is the same charger cable plus battery bundle that RIM is selling for $79.99 and others are selling for over $50. Check out the (RIM ACC-38580-301) RIM BlackBerry J – Series Extra Battery Charger Bundle – Battery – Retail Packaging for $23.49 on Amazon (and shipped by Amazon) from SF Planet. Take a look at one of the older MicroUSB wall chargers ($3.85) or newer smaller ones ($5.28). If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

BlackBerry Messenger v6.2.0.56 Released for OS 7.1 Devices Posted: 29 Aug 2012 10:55 AM PDT
RIM just pushed out a small update to the venerable BlackBerry Messenger app. This update seems targeted at OS 7.1 devices but I don't have an older device to test if it is also available. The change log mentions that this includes overall small bug fixes including support for Finish and improved Chinese handwriting. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

US Carriers Launching Isis NFC Payment System in September Posted: 29 Aug 2012 08:46 AM PDT
We told you previously about Isis as a collaboration between AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and MasterCard along with a few others. Their goal was to bring NFC mobile payments to these carriers and one of the highlights was support for BlackBerry NFC enabled devices. Isis announced this week that they will be planning their debut of Isis for September in Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas. There is no word on when the full rollout will happen but the delay was caused because Isis decided to route charges through the traditional credit card companies rather than carriers. Right now the MasterCard official list of approved mobile devices (PDF) for this platform include the Bold 9900, Curve 9360 & 9380, and Bold 9790. That means we should hopefully be seeing these devices included at launch. It also makes me wonder how far along RIM is at getting BlackBerry 10 device support from MasterCard. via Bloomberg If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Music Timer Audio Player Released for BlackBerry 10 and Current Smartphones Posted: 29 Aug 2012 06:45 AM PDT Keeper let us know about his latest BlackBerry app creation Music Timer in the forums. The new app is available for both BlackBerry 10 along with current OS 5.0+ BlackBerry smartphones. The app is essentially an MP3 player with support for all the audio current BlackBerrys can play along with one useful function. It allows you to set a timer like a sleep timer to stop the music after a certain amount of time has passed. I have quite a few friends that could use such a function for podcasts or listening to music before going to bed. You can find the BlackBerry OS 5.0+ version for download OTA in the forums from Keepers post. The Music Timer X for BlackBerry 10 is also available now and you can pick it up free from Mediafire and sideload it or it is available for $0.99 in App World if you have a Dev Alpha. It has similar features with more coming soon. Check out the details in the forums. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

RIM Building Up App World Approval Teams to Handle BlackBerry 10 Influx Posted: 29 Aug 2012 05:44 AM PDT
It looks like RIM is learning from their mistakes with the launch of the BlackBerry PlayBook. RIM ran a few promotions during that time that lead to an influx of apps into App World. The problem was that RIM's App World approval team could not handle the flow of apps coming in making them take weeks to get approved and getting vendors confirmed. RedNightHawk pointed out to me a quote that RIM's Alec Saunders, head of developer relations, gave to The Star when RIM made the announcement about meeting with carriers. He stated:
This is great news for RIM since their app catalog at the launch of BlackBerry 10 will be critical. They need loads of key quality apps available along with the expected blockbusters like video streaming (Netflix, Hulu, etc), chat (Skype or similar), etc. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
