Hands On With the BlackBerry PlayBook Music Player

I took some time to play with the BlackBerry PlayBook music player and thought I would share the features with you. The player is pretty slick but seems to lack any options which is odd like an equalizer but other than that it is awesome. You can control the music from the buttons on top allowing you to play/pause and raise and lower the volume. If you hold down the volume up and down keys it will skip forward or back a track which is also nice.

My favorite feature is the fact that RIM put the media controls and preview in the status bar. That means you can swipe down from the top left or top right bezel and see an icon for media playing. If you click on the icon it will show you the album art, current time in the song, name of the song, along with the ability to pause/play and skip tracks.

The PlayBook makes it easy to create a playlist by simply swiping down from the music view and hitting the edit button. You then select as many songs as you wish and click the add button and they are there. It looks like you can only create the one default playlist on the device but you can copy over more from your PC and edit them from the PlayBook.

You can also search your music and the PlayBook will search the music live showing you the results as you type which is nice.

Most of my music does not have album art but the music status shows up on the bottom of the music player screen along with the album art. All in all its a pretty nice experience! Check out more screenshots below:

More BlackBerry 9900 Pictures Side by Side With Current Devices

Posted: 16 Apr 2011 10:18 AM PDT

IMG00230-20110415-0835-ZBBSo far we have seen several pictures of the BlackBerry 9900, including a video of it. The guys over at ZonaBlackBerry got their hands on some more pictures of this device. I honestly can't wait until this device finds it's way to my hands. I like the 9800 touch screen QWERTY combo but the slider makes it a bit of pain to use. Having a device that does away with having to slide it eliminates that step.  The latest batch of pictures show the device running OS 6.1.0.55 Platform v 5.0.0.157.  The 6.1 is the OS version.   The back of the device has the name Brand that means it has not been given a name yet and is likely a pre-production device. If you wanted to get an idea of how the device looks in size compared to current devices check out the the pictures below.  The device is not much bigger than the 9800 but it is a bid wider.I love how slim this device looks compared to the other devices.

Posted: 16 Apr 2011 10:10 AM PDT

ScreenHunter_01 Apr. 16 12.02It has been a while since AT&T pushed an official OS for the BlackBerry Torch 9800. Martin and a few others let us know that they have pushed out OS v6.0.0.526. Simply plug your device to your PC and  start Desktop manger and you will be prompted to do the update. This update was leaked last weekend you can read about it at this link.

Note: I highly recommend that you backup your device before doing the update because you do not want to run the risk of something going wrong with the update.
