MemoryUp Professional. 10 Free Copies to be Won!

memoryup_pro_-_blackberry_ram_booster_69331

I'm not sure what the HD championship award is, but MemoryUp Pro has won it 3 years in a row for best phone tool. I've been trying out the Pro version for a couple of weeks and I'm not quite convinced this app is all its cracked up to be…HD champion or not.

I was confused as to what the total memory in the app was referring to and what was better about the pro ($16.99 regular price) version and the personal (free) version. Did anyone actually buy the pro version for $17?

I've learned that the Total Memory in MemoryUp is actually referring to the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) within your existing RAM. But I'm still confused. Why is the free memory in the JVM (55MB) so much larger than my total free app memory (19MB)? It’s very likely that I’m missing something, but that just doesn't sound right to me.

Here is what I found out about differences between the personal and pro versions. MemoryUp Personal is 100% freeware, and MemoryUp Pro is an enhanced edition of MemoryUp Personal.

The add-on features for MemoryUp Pro include:
1. Auto-boost (in the background) and Start-up boost functions
2. Low memory alert and Auto-fix function
3. Smartphone system crash protection
4. Set performance targets with Basic and Advanced settings
5. System information and Boost log
6. One year’s free upgrade

We have 10 free copies courtesy of eMobiStudio, of MemoryUp Professional to give away to our lucky readers! Basically I would like all of the winners to try out the personal version first, install the pro version, and report back here with your findings about differences. Volunteers? Leave a comment! OR

We Need More Twitter Apps For The PlayBook

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 07:00 PM PDT

IMG_00000055 (2)So far no full Twitter apps for the PlayBook are available that I know off beside Tweedless but it seems that is no longer available on app world. It still works if you manage to grab it. Not sure what the story is behind it.

I found this other application called Tweet Translate. I have to say the application looks really nice but the downside is that in only does what the name says, it lets you send out tweets and you can choose the language you want it to translate to before sending out a tweet.

If the maker of this app could add more functionality I think the application would be really popular because I really like the UI.

It needs the ability to do:

  • Ability to get and reply to mentions
  • interact with the twitter timeline
  • Direct messages
  • Option to increase/decrease font size

You can download Tweet Translate at this link.

The list could go on but it be nice to have a decent twitter app on the PlayBook. So far the Browser will do but it be nice to simply just fire up the app and read, tweet or whatever it is that you like to do on twitter.

Splatter Shot for PlayBook: Free 2 Player Retro Shooting Game

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 04:10 PM PDT

splatter shot player

Tashanna let us know about a new free game for PlayBook called Splatter Shot. It looks quite similar to pong but it is kind of the opposite. You choose one of three "ships" (they looks more like circles to me) and try to hit your opponent on the other side. You're dodging instead of stopping. Each ship has a different shot type. The green bar below your ship is your health.

splatter shot game

I just tried out the game with a friend and its pretty fun. I am a big fan of simple games. This one could be much better if there were a few tweaks:

  1. Less total health or more damage per shot. It takes way too long to end the game (quick guess is about 30 hits).
  2. Faster bullet speed for all ship types.
  3. Keep score (maybe a best of 5?).
  4. Online play with friends would be amazing but I'm guessing that's tricky to implement.

Get Splatter Shot for your PlayBook in App World.

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 03:28 PM PDT

BBM logoThe guys over at BlackBerry Empire noticed that BBM v6.0.0.73 is now available to selected beta zone members on BBM. It was noted on a previous software road map that BBM 6.0 would hit the beta zone around this time. If you are not a beta zone member click here to sign up.

The update comes at 3.9MB in size if you are wondering what is new read below:

You may not notice very many visible changes between BBM 5.0 and BBM 6.0 at this time, but stay tuned! For now, here are a few new things you might notice in this version:

  • Updated BBM branding

  • Any alerts set for SMS contacts are now preserved in BBM once SMS contact is integrated with BBM
  • Visual distinction of message drafts vs. sent messages
  • "Invite a Text Messaging Contact" — easier to search contacts

Photoshop PlayBook Ad Fail! Shows the PlayBook Running HoneyComb

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 07:30 AM PDT

I though this was funny, Bla1ze over at CB spotted an image in an email ad sent out by MacMall. The ad shows the PlayBook running android OS. On a similar note I was at a local BestBuy not too long ago and the sales rep told me the PlayBook would RUN Android OS. I quickly corrected the associate. It is not to say that the PlayBook is not capable of running android OS but am not sure why RIM would ever do that specially with how awesome QNX is on the PlayBook.

So far RIM has made it clear that android apps will have to be submitted by developers through app world and RIM will have an android app Player on the PlayBook that will run the android apps. There is a difference in running applications than running a complete OS systems like android.

The Big Package UPS and FedEx Tracking for the PlayBook

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 06:31 AM PDT

playbook tracking I searched through BlackBerry App Word for quite a while for a package tracking app and finally found one. The application is simple to use but packs quite a few features. You can track packages from both FedEx and UPS. One of the cool features of this application is the ability to track and map the route using google maps. The app also allows you to save multiple tracking numbers and retrieve it any time you want to look at the progress. Another feature is the details window that gives you a detail list of information of the package you are tracking.

To download go to this Link

Also I wanted to say I wrote this post entirely from  a PlayBook, it was a lot easier  than expected. The BlackBerry PlayBook handled WordPress quite well.
