Giveaway: and Review iMainGo X Portable Speaker Win One of Tow

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 03:05 PM PDT

imaingox-1Earlier this year we heard about the iMainGo X portable speaker system.  One of our readers actually did a review of it here. I was sent one for review recently and I did not know what type of sound to expect base on the size of the device. To my surprise for it's size the iMainGo X delivers a really good and loud enough sound.  The device is designed to fit iPhone and other touch screen devices. I used the Torch  which worked pretty good.

In the box:

  • iMainGo X portable speaker
  • Lithium-ion battery
  • Plug-in Charger
  • Plastic backing plate
  • iMainGo memory foam
  • Custom travel bag
  • Wrist Strap and larger carry strap
  • 3 language instructions (English, French, Spanish)

Form Factor:  The speaker system looks like one of those older cassette players; featuring a sleek and cool looking design. There  are two power buttons, one is inside and the other one is outside which lights up when it is pressed to turn on. The front has four ports two for headphones one for microphone and another one for charging the rechargeable battery located inside.

Specifications:

  • Battery Life: up to 12 hours
  • Speakers: Extra large 37mm premium high output stereo
  • Amplifier: premium state-of-the-art digital
  • Bass: Tuned porting
  • Extra large device compartment
  • Simplified and improved device holding mechanism
  • Headphone jack, combination jack/auxillary, mic-in
  • Daisy-chain feature
  • Power Supply: rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included)
  • Plug-in charger included
  • External power controls
  • Plug: 3.5mm gold-tipped stereo
  • Weight: 9 ounces (255 grams)
  • Size: 5.7" x 3.8" x 2.4" (145mm x 96mm x 61 mm)
  • One year limited warranty
  • Material: Neoprene Water resistant

Video overview

The speakers deliver a much louder sound than your mobile device would so this makes it perfect to take to the park, on on trips to keep something to play your music.  Note that this is not designed for you to take on a run, or for a jog as it is a bit bulky and heavy.

The device can fit most mobile devices inside as it has a memory foam that can be place inside the phone to adjust and make a tight fit to hold the device in place.  The clear plastic cover on one side allows you to control your music through the touch screen. This is not designed to work with none touch screens but if you can plug it in to any head phone jack it will play music even from you PC.

Pros:

  • Loud and clear sound
  • Long battery life
  • Connects to any 3.5mm
  • Portable
  • Rechargeable battery
  • Can be used as an external speaker for other devices even a pc or laptop
  • Can also be used as premium external stereo speaker system for any device with a 3.5 mm connection: iPad®, Laptop, Kindle®, cell phone, electric guitar, portable gaming system, etc…

The only con I really see is that is a bit heavy but is to be expected since it has two speakers, and a battery that last quite a bit.

Giveaway: We have two of these cool speakers to giveaway to you, simply let us know what you would use this for in the comments. Only one comment per person.  Good luck, leave comments before July 30th.

I have been waiting for more comics apps to hit App World for the PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphones. The latest to be released is from Studio Aleph and lets you read comics on your BlackBerry PlayBook. The app is capable of opening CBZ, ZIP, and Image folder comics though not the CBR comic file format.

If that fits you bill you will want to check out Comics Reader in App World for a relatively inexpensive $0.99. Hopefully they will add CBR support in the near future!

Review – miShuffle, Say Something Creative on Facebook

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 11:06 AM PDT

Sometimes finding the most clever thing to say on Facebook is harder that it seems. Finding something with meaning, cleverness, hilarity or just sarcastic so you get all the “Likes” you wish to have is a daunting task. Well, here is a tiny app that will help you find those posts. miShuffle is a relatively small app (116.6 KB) with LOTS of posts you can use. Ranging from Beauty and Family Matters to Insults and Political Incorrectness and SO much more. There are 62 topics to choose from with each topic have at least 4 different posts you can use.

All you do it just log into Facebook as soon as the app is opened for the first time, then choose your post and hit “Post”. And within 10 seconds, your post is live for others to read, comment and providing they have a sense of humor, “Like”. Another nice thing I see is that every time your reboot your device, you must log into Facebook to use the application. This is good because then you know that the app is not storing your information.

If you need a little bit of inspiration in your Facebook posts, you can get miShuffle for $1.99 $.99 (on sale) in the BerryReview Store.

RIM Shares More Developer Success Stories from App World

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 09:05 AM PDT

App World of Possibilities

Since RIM started App World I have been asking for them to share some developer success stories. Even better would be adding rankings and badges for developers on App World sort of like eBay's feedback rating system. They started offering us some good details when App World hit 1 billion downloads but now they are back with more. I am just hoping they make this a regular feature. Potential devs should know the opportunity available on the BlackBerry platform. Here is the info they shared:

  • Have you heard of Jingu? This social app from Jingu Apps Inc. allows users to create avatars for BBM, access a wide assortment of new emoticons and participate in a new social environment. In a very short time, Jingu has surpassed a million downloads.
  • Spice Labs Pvt Ltd. have seen more than 16 million downloads of their paid and free applications, which include Hangman and HangmanKids. Spice Labs is focused on games with an educational twist and look to engage and teach children and youth.
  • WeatherEye HD is an application for the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet that was built using the BlackBerry WebWorks toolset and is not only visually rich, but is also designed to take advantage of the BlackBerry WebWorks tools to create a deep app experience. In a short period of time, this app has seen more than 50,000 downloads.
  • Doodle Blast on the BlackBerry PlayBook is an addictive game that has hooked family and friends. Users create "ink" pathways to get balls to fall into a container and achieve levels. They have had almost 50,000 downloads since the launch of their application.
  • Crystal Balls from ingames is a simple game where players must combine three or more balls of the same color to make them explode – it's like TETRIS® meets Gem Swap. The Crystal Ball Free version is almost at one million downloads now.

Will RIM Still Release Camera-Less BlackBerrys?

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 07:12 AM PDT

Cameraless BlackBerry Bold

One of our readers, Joe, pointed out an interesting question in our comments. He was curious if the BlackBerry Bold 9930/9900 will also have a camera-less version of the device. It is becoming harder every day to find a smartphone that is not packing a camera. On the other hand RIM has catered to the camera-less market quite a few times with BlackBerry models without cameras shortly after their camera packing variant launches.

So I thought I would throw the question out there. Have you read anything about BlackBerry 7 devices without a camera? I remember reading leaked documentation way back when these models were firmly in rumorville that included a camera-less version of the 9900 but nothing recent. Do you work at a job that does not allow cameras? Its also interesting to note that the BlackBerry PlayBook has yet to even have a rumor about a camera-less version of the tablet.
