Plastic Mobile and Rogers Sportsnet Bring Hockeycentral to the PlayBook

Plastic Mobile has teamed up with Rogers Sportsnet to bring us Hockeycentral for the PlayBook. With the NHL playoffs in full swing, Hockeycentral aims to keep you informed and in the know wherever you are.

The free app features breaking news, scores, schedules, twitter updates from the Hockeycentral panel, articles, and analysis from the best writers in the business. Unfortunately I can't try this app out yet since I'm waiting for my haikus to win me a PlayBook or two.

For those who are awesome enough to have a PlayBook already, check out Hockeycentral in App World and let us know what you think! I'm curious to know if this is better than simply using the browser. NHL.com looked pretty good when I tested it out at the store yesterday.

Hulu Wasted Little Time to Block the PlayBook

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 04:15 PM PDT

Hulu_On_The_PlayBook_0The PlayBook released just yesterday and it looks like Hulu did not like the idea of allowing PlayBook users to stream media from it. Today Nikolaus excited to get his PlayBook checked to see if Hulu worked and to his surprise Hulu has already blocked the PalyBook. We did expect this to happen since that is the same steps they have taken with any mobile device. The PlayBook is the only tablet out there that supports native flash so you may be able to watch content from other sites but not through Hulu.  This is really frustrating for those that were looking forward to viewing content through Hulu.

Thanks Nikoluas for the tip.

BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet It’s here! Video Commercial Hits BlackBerry Youtube Channel

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 10:07 AM PDT

RIM has not done a mass marketing campaign for the PlayBook like we had expected. With the PlayBook I’ve yet to see a TV ad. Today they posted a video on their official youtube channel. Not by far the best add but better than nothing at all.

Video LINK

Thanks to fubaz for the tip.

PlayBook Shipping With Adobe Reader X

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 06:30 AM PDT

Adobe-Reader-X-300x218One of the things that I was looking forward to is having native PDF reader on the BlackBerry PlayBook. No other tablet has better support for document editing than the BlackBerry PlayBook, which includes PDF, Document, Spreadsheet, and PowerPoint support for free.  Adobe released the statement below, and it can only get better for the PlayBook for those that have productivity in mind.

"The highly-anticipated BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will ship with Adobe Reader X for high-quality and fast viewing of rich content through the ubiquitous PDF.

PlayBook users will have access to advanced features in  Adobe Reader including Touch-based gestures for efficient navigation and zoom in the PDF, Page Navigator interface for fast navigation within large files, accelerometer support and File manager for quick access to PDF files on the PlayBook tablet.

You can learn more about the Adobe and RIM news here.

Also, learn more ways you can view and interact with PDF documents on the go, by visiting:http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/features.html"

So for those of you with a PlayBook what is the productivity tool on the PlayBook that you will likely be using the most?
