Free Recycle Bin Restores Deleted Email, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, & Events

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 02:17 AM PDT

Recycle Bin Recycle Bin3

There have been a few apps over the years that allow you to restore Email, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, & Events that you have deleted since the app was installed. The latest is a free one aptly called Recycle Bin which stores backup copies of deleted Email, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, & Events so that you can later recover them. You can then clean out your Recycle Bin every once in awhile. The only catch is that emails are restored as drafts due to a technical limitation but other than that it works like a charm

Check out Recycle Bin free in App World

BlackBerry Roadmap Leak Details BlackBerry 10 Device Rollout

BlackBerry 10 2013 Roadmap Leak

The delay of BlackBerry 10s launch into 2013 has disappointed RIM's fans but RIM has still left us out in the dark when it comes to how the rollout will look in 2013. Joe over at BBOS scored from an anonymous source what appears to be the BlackBerry 10 rollout roadmap for 2013. It more or less jives with what we have heard so far and the details RIM has provided and does not contradict with any other sources. The roadmap details:

  • 4G BlackBerry PlayBook – Q4, 2012
  • BlackBerry 10 London/Nevada – Q1, 2013 – Europe launch before N. America
  • BlackBerry 10 Upgrade for PlayBook – Q1/Q2, 2013
  • BlackBerry device codenamed “Nashville” – Q2/Q3, 2013
  • BlackBerry 10 inch PlayBook “Blackforest” – Q3, 2013
  • BlackBerry device codenamed “Naples” – Q3/Q4, 2013

According to this source the launch of BlackBerry 10 is set for Europe in the first week of January with North America to follow in the first week of February. They say this is because European markets and media outlets have been more receptive to RIM and BlackBerry 10 than the North American market. That would not be a first for RIM especially with carriers always extending testing periods in the US which has lead to launches in Canada and internationally before the US.

As RIM mentioned before the PlayBook will be getting BlackBerry 10 in the same first quarter of 2013. Along with that is mention of what seems to be the 10" BlackBerry PlayBook codenamed Blackforest which was rumored to be cancelled previously. There are also hints that Blackforest will have a 128GB model.

Last but not least the two names for the codenamed Nashville and Naples devices also seem to be tracking between Q2 and Q4 of 2013 though we are not quite sure what they are. Joe speculates that because they start with "N" they will be keyboarded N-Series devices. All in all pretty exciting but expected news. The thing that really relieves me is that this rumor is pointing to the beginning of 2013 instead of the last day in Q3 2013. Let us know what you think!

bMagnified Turns Your BlackBerry Into a Magnifying Glass (OS 7.0+)

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 12:43 PM PDT

bMagnified

When I first heard of bMagnified I was a bit skeptical. Most of what it claims to do is something you could do free with the camera app by zooming in. I actually ran into one of our older readers, Gabe, and he told me he is in love with the app which made me reconsider. bMagnified makes it super easy on your BlackBerry 7 device to magnify using the camera view though it does work better on Torch, Bold, and Curve models with AutoFocus since the 9900 fixed focus camera will be blurry.

You can find bMagnified in App World for $0.99. I am guessing that it is limited to OS 7.0+ due to API requirements.

RIM Holds Their First BlackBerry Security Summit With External Researchers

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 10:53 AM PDT

BlackBerry Security Summit

RIM's BlackBerry Security Incident Response Team (BBSIRT) has been making a big effort to collaborate with the security community. This is especially so since the PlayBook jailbreak, BlackBerry Backup Brute Force attack, and Pwn2Own exploit. In the last year they have participated in 50+ security conferences around the world and this past week they took things one step further. They just had their first BlackBerry Security Summit inviting external security researchers to collaborate on and share knowledge on mobile security challenges of today and tomorrow.

Adrian Stone of RIM detailed a bit of what his team at RIM is doing to engage with researchers on the BlackBerry Business blog. They just had the first BlackBerry Security Summit this past Thursday and Friday (June 28th & 29th) and from what I am hearing it was a success. Here is to hoping this collaboration helps RIM secure the platform from any future jailbreaks and security vulnerabilities that plague other platforms. On a side note they really need to hold these conferences in the Caribbean since these guys really need some sun.

In case you don't remember our previous mentions, PuZZed allows you to set multiple alarm clocks on your BlackBerry smartphone with a twist. To shut the alarm off you need to answer a varying level of puzzles with five different options available.

Check out PuZZed for $1.99 in App World or at www.qbotron.com

RIM Has Ottawa QNX Employees Working "All Out" for BlackBerry 10

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 08:28 AM PDT

RIM Ottawa Headquarters QNX

It is not secret that QNX is the core behind BlackBerry 10 and most of the mindshare for the low level operating system resides at their main offices in Ottawa. Jacques let us know about a report in the Ottawa Citizen that RIM is directing their Ottawa staff to go "All Out." According to reports they are hearing RIM is limiting summer vacations and working 6 day work weeks to get BlackBerry 10 ready. Reporters have been trying to speak to employees right outside the offices but are rightfully shown the way to the PR team.

As much as it sucks to hear about employees worked to the bone I am excited to learn that RIM is doubling down and doing everything they can to get BlackBerry 10 out the door. As much as we have grown to know the legacy BlackBerry team over the years I am really curious to see what QNX has cooked up in BlackBerry 10 along with RIM's core teams and acquisitions.

To all of you at RIM working double time on BlackBerry 10 we wish you the best of luck and Godspeed! We hope to have the final product of your efforts soon.

Twimbow CEO Explains Why He Joined RIM’s Developer Relations Team

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 05:36 AM PDT

Luca

Last month we heard that the popular and exquisitely beautiful desktop HTML5 Twitter client Twimbow was coming to the BlackBerry 10 platform when the device launches. Now Twimbow's CEO Luca Filigheddu (Twimbow, TechGenial, Sitòfono) made it known on his Tumbler blog and on Twitter @Filos that he is joining RIM's developer relations team. He even shared with TheNextWeb why he has decided that now is the time to join RIM as a Developer Evangelist for the Italian market. Luca let them know that he is "100% comitted to the new role at RIM" and that he considers it a challenge and is optimistic about his success.

Here is what he told TheNextWeb:

"There are a couple of reasons behind this choice, first and foremost the great challenges RIM has been facing in the past months and the incredible effort they are putting to change the skin of the company completely before the launch of their new smartphone based on BlackBerry 10 OS.

For this reason, I am very proud to have been chosen for this important role. RIM is creating an outstanding Developer Relations team around the world, headed by VP Alec Saunders, dedicated to help developers bring their great apps to the new upcoming operating system.

BlackBerry 10 is gonna be an incredible revolution for the smartphone market, a truly open platform, capable of running Android apps natively and also the platform that is easiest in terms of porting any application to. Moreover, it's the only mobile OS truly multi-tasking, open to possibilities that could have been never imagined before, with outstanding performances.
