RIM Explains PlayBook FIPS Government Certification & More Posted: 27 Jul 2011 02:36 AM PDT The BlackBerry PlayBook became the first and only FIPS US government certified tablet this month which is a pretty big milestone for RIM. While their smartphones are certified RIM has already had the BlackBerry PlayBook cryptographic kernel certified for government use which opens up the doors for the biggest tech consumer in the US to purchase them. RIM has thankfully posted a video interview with Michael K. Brown, Director of Security Product Management at RIM, to explain a bit about what FIPS certification is and why it is so important. He also explains why this kind of security certification is essential for government clients alongside healthcare and financial clients. Foursquare v3.1 Adds BBM Integration Back! Posted: 26 Jul 2011 06:29 AM PDT Foursquare teased us with BBM integration in their Alpha build a bit back but then pulled the feature in the full v3.0 release. Now mere days later BBRocks noticed that we have Foursquare 3.1 with BBM integration. The most interesting part is that it is available on Foursquare’s website AND App World. This is unusual because RIM has yet to release BBM6 and said they would not publish apps using BBM6 in App World until it was publically released. Either way if you like the BBM integration check out v3.1 from Foursquare’s website or App World If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

RIM Website Confirms Both 9810 & 9850/9860 to Carry Torch Name Posted: 26 Jul 2011 06:19 AM PDT While it makes sense for the BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 to carry the Torch name we have still been a bit confused by the all touch 9850 and 9860. We heard rumors before that RIM would simply include them in the Torch line but that does not sound like RIM. I understand why they want to forget the Storm name and I understand capitalizing on the Torch name but shouldn’t an all touch device with no keyboard have a different name? At the very least something like the Torch HD for the bigger screen? Well one of CrackBerry’s tipsters noticed that RIM’s accessories website has the 9810, 9850, and 9860 all carrying the plain vanilla Torch name. What do you think of that?
