BerryReview Blows Past 10,000 Articles Milestone!

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 03:03 AM PDT

Big group of young jumping people.

We just had our 4th birthday in June but I somehow find this milestone more impressive. This article is officially the 10,000th article written on BerryReview. It still amazes me how far BerryReview has come since it started in June of 2007. While we are already giving away a BlackBerry Bold 9900 this month courtesy of the BerryReview Unlocking store I managed to convince them to throw yet another big contest for August. It looks like the Bold 9900 will be the first BlackBerry 7 device to launch but let us know what you think we should give away in August!

With that said I wanted to thank all our wonderful readers, writers, and contributors for making BerryReview a site that truly gives back to the BlackBerry community. Onwards to 20,000 articles! We hope you stick around for the wild ride!

Review: DICOTA TabBook Case for the BlackBerry PlayBook

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 03:05 PM PDT

tabbook5DICOTA is one of the newest members the join the Built for BlackBerry alliance but they are not new to making cases and bags to protect your electronics on the go with stylish designs.  They make cases for BlackBerry devices, and the recently launched BlackBerry PlayBook. DICOTA sent us a sample for a reviewand a few extra to giveaway which some of our lucky readers were first to have these cases on their hands

The one am going to review is  the TabBook Case for the BlackBerry PlayBook.  This is a unique and stylish design featuring a notebook style casing that makes it look like your simply carrying a stylish tabbook6agenda or a notebook on your hands. In the interior of the case there is a hard shell that encases the PlayBook to keep it secure while providing access to all the ports and buttons through cut out sections.

Main Features:

  • Booklet case with stand function for BlackBerry PlayBook tablet
  • Allows you to use the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet while still inside the case
  • Stand can be used in either typing or viewing mode

The really neat feature on this case is the way it allows you to fold it into a stand to view in two different modes. When you are done using it the case can be easily put back into a notebook hiding and protecting your PlayBook.  The case also  has a strap that allows you to fit your hand through it making it more secure while you hold with one hand.

The easy access buttons, and camera are easy to access without taking away from the usability of the device. For the back camera it has a cut out that allows you to take pictures or video without having to  take the PlayBook out of the case.

If you are looking for a good quality case this one offers quite a bit of features and it should be out for sale soon. If you like to find out more about this case you can go to this link. No pricing is available at the moment but they should be out soon.

BlackBerry Torch 9860/9850 Approved by the FCC

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 08:55 AM PDT

BlackBerry Torch 9860 FCC

First we saw the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and then the BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 blow past the FCC approval process. Now we have the all touch BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860 also showing up on the FCC website spotted by Engadget. This new model has three variants which hints to a CDMA and two GSM models. In other words one for Sprint/Verizon, one for regular GSM (Think AT&T), and one for GSM AWS (Like T-Mobile and WIND Canada). These devices show up as three models RDH71CW / RDP71UW / RDQ71UW,

The devices show as supporting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth along with the following frequencies per model:

  • RDH71CW supports GSM / EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and CDMA 800/1900/2000 (Verizon & Sprint Model)
  • RDP71UW supports WCDMA with quad band GSM/EDGE and WCDMA 850/1900/2100 (AT&T, Rogers, Bell, and/or Telus)
  • RDQ71UW also supports quad band GSM/EDGE but substitutes in WCDMA 1700 AWS, as well as 900/2100 for global use (T-Mobile & WIND Canada)

Check out the filings on the FCC website at this link. Thanks Tashanna for the tip!

Chalk Pushcast Enterprise Software Renamed to BlackBerry Pushcast

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 08:09 AM PDT

 BlackBerry Pushcast

Way back in early 2009 RIM acquired Chalk Pushcast Software and we were hoping for big things from the acquisition. Sadly nothing showed up in the consumer space but RIM tried pushing it in the enterprise space for mobile learning and communications. It seems like they do have users for the software because they did release a PlayBook version but now they have officially dropped the Chalk name to simply call it BlackBerry Pushcast. They brand the solution as giving enterprises the ability to:

Push interactive content to mobile users wirelessly and help enhance productivity and improve employee efficiency with BlackBerry Pushcast Software.

Priority communications
Securely send executive communications and track to ensure they’re received and understood.

Priority training
Reach people like never before, with the potential for completion rates better than in traditional eLearning.

RIM announced in their forums that BlackBerry Pushcast software is the next iteration of Chalk and you can read more about it below or at www.blackberry.com/pushcast.

BlackBerry® Pushcast™ Software is the next iteration and rebranded version of Chalk Pushcast Software. BlackBerry Pushcast Software facilitates media-rich training and communications and includes several components and applications that authors can use to create, manage, and send mobile content to computers or BlackBerry smartphones.

BlackBerry Pushcast Player users can view and save content on their BlackBerry smartphones by downloading the content when they are in a wireless coverage area and open the content when they are offline.

  • The BlackBerry smartphone automatically stops downloading content when a data connection is not available or when a call is received. The BlackBerry smartphone should automatically resume downloading the content when the connection is restored or when the call ends.

  • Microsoft® IIS on Windows Server 2008 runs in full integration mode instead of classic mode

Rogers Also Getting the BlackBerry Torch 9810

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 07:05 AM PDT

rogers-BlackBerry TOrch9810

For those of you up north who were wondering when you would be getting the latest BlackBerry models here is a bit of good news. MobileSyrup got confirmation that Rogers is going to launch the BlackBerry Torch 9810. They managed to confirm this by getting a picture of a rate card for the device though it is missing the key information of a launch date or even the price. Hopefully those blanks will be filled in soon!
