Leak Shows T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 Coming August 31st

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Launch date leak T-Mobile

I know many T-Mobile customers were hoping for a mid August launch for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 but it looks like it is happening at the end of August. Jim let us know that PhoneArena scored a leaked product page for the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 showing a August 31st launch date. It also shows that it will have a $50 Mail In Rebate at launch with a $20/month data plan.

RIM is really pushing this "End of Summer" launch down to the last minute. I am hoping AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon manage to get these out the door quicker!

RIM to Announce Two BlackBerry Torch Models Tomorrow? Wednesday?

Posted: 01 Aug 2011 12:08 PM PDT

BlackBerry 7 OS

We have been hearing rumblings pointing to this but I would still take this rumor with a grain of salt. We have heard from a couple sources that RIM is going to announce two more device in their BlackBerry 7 lineup tomorrow. From what we have been hearing this will be the BlackBerry Torch 9810 (Torch 2 revamp) and the BlackBerry Torch 9850 / 9860 (Full touchscreen no physical keyboard BlackBerry). We have not heard anything about the BlackBerry Curve 9360 but I don’t think that one is fully baked yet.

These announcements couldn’t come soon enough since both of these devices have passed the FCC along with the BlackBerry Bold 9900. From what we are hearing they will start rolling out two weeks after the Bold 9900. That means sometime in late August early September. RIM might also simply be announcing these new BlackBerry 7 devices during their BlackBerry 7 Fan Night event which is happening in Toronto Wednesday night. Abbas from TBreak let us know that he is also hearing the announcement will be at the event.

Either way RIM needs to announce these devices ASAP even if this rumor pans out or not. I am just hoping the launch parties will be in NYC :)

How Would You Improve the BlackBerry PlayBook?

Posted: 01 Aug 2011 11:12 AM PDT

I always find the conversations on Engadget’s "How Would You Change…" posts very interesting. David pointed out the latest one they ran which asks readers "How would you change the BlackBerry PlayBook?" The article is actually refreshingly positive but my favorite part is the comments. Since yesterday their readers have contributed over 12 pages of comments and there are some interesting discussions going on. I thought we could pose the same question to all of you.

How would you improve the BlackBerry PlayBook? We know RIM has many updates in store for the PlayBook so some of your suggestions are probably already covered but what else would you change?

Latest BlackBerry PlayBook Commercial Features Bridge & Video Chat

PlayBook Commercial

RIM is continuing their PlayBook marketing campaign all over the place. The latest development is a new BlackBerry PlayBook commercial caught on camera by Adam @CrackBerry. The video quality is not the best but it is kind of nice to finally see RIM highlighting the BlackBerry Bridge as the feature it is. Check out the video below:

Distimo released their mobile report for July this month and this time they are focused on games. The thing that I found the most interesting is this month they specifically break out PlayBook App World games from regular BlackBerry smartphone games. The lists are very telling so I highly recommend checking them out if you are looking for popular PlayBook or smartphone games.

BlackBerry PlayBook First Tablet Certified By Australian Government

Posted: 01 Aug 2011 07:35 AM PDT

RIM’s experience with the government certification process is really shining through recently. They started with the US government FIPS certification and now they have the BlackBerry PlayBook certified by the Defense Signals Directorate for use by Australian Governmental agencies. They have to follow some strict guidelines but according to iTwire RIM is saying this is the first government certified tablet in Australia for use with restricted or protected classified data.

Check out the full details at iTwire

Video: New York Times Editors Swap Smartphones

Posted: 01 Aug 2011 07:05 AM PDT

Over the weekend the New York Times posted up a funny video. Two of their editors, Andrew Sorkin and Sam Grobart, swap their phones (an iPhone for a BlackBerry) for some interesting results. Its kind of funny to see what happens next so I won't ruin it for you but let us know if you have experienced something similar!

Avatar Builder v1.0.2 Adds Support for More Countries

Posted: 01 Aug 2011 05:59 AM PDT

Avatar Builder Update

While I am not sure exactly what countries were added in this update it does look like some have definitely been added to the list. Terrence and a few other readers pointed out to us that RIM is rolling out a v1.0.2 of Avatar Builder. So far we have only received screenshots of the Girls Avatar Builder Edition being updated but it could be the Guys is also updating.

The App World release notes for the update contain one line:

Available for More Countries

Let us know if you notice a new country on the list. From what I can tell Ecuador is new but Saudi Arabia is still not there. Check out the different versions below:
