Nothing really crazy in terms of other new features but the up to the minute sports coverage now includes: Soccer, Tennis and Formula 1, Basketball, Football, Hockey and Rugby.

BlackBerry Torch 9810 Bell BlackBerry Bold 9900 Bell

The release date rumor mill is in full swing. The latest off the presses are some leaked screenshots scored by CrackBerry showing the release dates for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 on Bell Canada. Bell actually has both of these devices launching on August 16th which is pretty slick. Either way August is going to be a big month for RIM. Can you feel that in the air?

RIM Updates BlackBerry News App to v1.1 – OS 7.0 Only?

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 12:08 PM PDT

I am not sure what to make of this one so let us know if you figure out more info. Tim let me know that RIM has announced BlackBerry News App v1.1 in their official forums. The thing is nobody has spotted the app in App World yet though that has not stopped RIM from changing the description to reflect v1.1 and putting up knowledge base articles about it. My current theory is that this new version is only available for OS 7.0 devices in App World though this version simply brings it to closer parity with what Viigo use to have before RIM acquired it.

The new version 1.1 of BlackBerry News adds:

  • Language support for English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese
  • Unified Search for BlackBerry News articles on the device
  • All New items folder view
  • Google Reader Import
  • BlackBerry ID for OS 7.0 support

Let us know if you spot the update at this link in App World for your device

The rumored launch dates are starting to agree with each other. The latest comes to us from TechnoBuffalo courtesy of a blurry leaked Rogers flyer from one of their trusted sources. The flyer is a bit blurry to make out but it is definitely a single digit. :) That means we are seeing this land on Rogers next week!!!

While many of you are waiting for Netflix to release a PlayBook client there is a new contender in town. EPIX has released a BlackBerry app for their video and movie streaming service. The app has a 14 day free trial for you to kick the tires though the app really needs a follow up release to fix some of the serious bugs in the app. According to EPIX they have over 3,000 movies in their catalog as a joint venture between Viacom, Paramount, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Lionsgate.

Book Reader for BlackBerry PlayBook is Best ePub eBook Reader Yet

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:01 AM PDT

343210 343207

In case you have not noticed yet I have been hunting for a solid ePub eBook reader for my PlayBook. We have covered quite a few of them as alternatives to the closed Kobo reader but so far many of them have been found wanting. That was until I found Book Reader by Untangled Development. While not perfect Book Reader is pretty darn good and has grown out of the bugs in its original version. The app opens and manages your DRM free ePub eBooks. eBooks are imported and copied into the library when you first open them for faster loading.

Another big plus for Book Reader is that it is selling for a very reasonable $0.99 in App World. Check it out and let us know what you think!

BlackBerry Management Center Set to Launch in Mid-August

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 05:54 AM PDT

BIS management

In case you have not been paying attention RIM has been cooking up their BlackBerry Management Center for a few months now. They have been beta testing their latest small business product and so far people are really liking it. It lets small businesses manage BlackBerrys without a BES server by linking their BIS accounts together along with BlackBerry Protect. That way one central administrator or administrators can manage the business or family BlackBerrys and make sure they are backed up and have the correct settings. You can also centrally control the BlackBerry Protect settings that let you find or wipe lost phones.

RIM sent out the email below to beta participants who were kind enough to forward it along. The current tentative date for BlackBerry Management Center to launch is Mid August and hopefully RIM will be able to pull that off.

BlackBerry Management Center v1.0 Beta | End-of-Beta Notice

Hello,

We would like to take a moment to provide an update regarding the close of the BlackBerry Management Center v1.0 beta program. This beta program will continue to run until July 29, 2011 (9:00pm EST.).

General Availability of the BlackBerry Management Center v1.0 is currently scheduled for the mid-August timeframe.

Important Notes:

  • General Availability date is subject to change.
  • After July 29th, end users should upgrade their BlackBerry Protect client from the beta version to the latest version available on BlackBerry App World.
  • Our goal is to have your BlackBerry Management Center v1.0 accounts migrated from the beta environment to the production environment automatically. You will however be required to accept the new terms & conditions before proceeding. Please stand by for further instructions closer to the General Availability date on how to complete this.

We thank you for your participation on the BlackBerry Management Center beta program and for all the feedback that you have provided. If you have any further questions regarding this notice or the program in general, please feel free to email us!

Regards,

Maria Sandjaja
BlackBerry Beta Zone Team
