If Bluetooth headphone are not your thing you can swap them for a $50 Amazon or PayPal gift certificate for the prize of your choice!

While at Pepcom last week I had a chance to try out Jabra's upcoming SUPREME headset that is coming in October. The headset is a flashback with its huge mono speaker but the sound quality was great and it was super comfy to wear. It includes a nice flip boom that lets you flip the microphone back and forth to turn it on and off. It also features:

jabrasupreme2  jabrasupreme

  • Active Noise Cancelation blocks out background noise to ensure pristine call clarity
  • Wind-Noise Reduction Technology reduces unwanted wind-noise from your conversation
  • Noise Blackout™ 3.0 ensures your voice is crystal clear to the person you are speaking to
  • Flip-boom Arm can be unfolded to switch ON and folded to switch OFF
  • Custom Comfort provided with two interchangeable soft ear cushions and adjustable ear hook

All in all the SUPREME looks like it will be a pretty solid headset though not yet available. if you are looking for something now Jabra just released their follow up EXTREME2 headset which is currently available at Best Buy, Amazon.com, Best Buy Canada, Future Shop and The Source.

Real Contact Shares Your Location & Availability With BBM Friends

Moobile, a dev team from Argentina, let us know they have recently released Real Contact for BlackBerry to help friends connect. The app uses the new BBM SDK to show your BBM contacts on a map using BlackBerry Maps and then you can set up alerts based on location batter and if you are on the phone. Its a really cool idea and something I was hoping RIM would let us do ages ago by adding presence/location and availability to the address book.

BlackBerry Messenger 6.0.1.25 Released in Beta Zone

Posted: 23 Sep 2011 09:31 AM PDT

Curve 9350

RIM has quietly updated BlackBerry Messenger in the BlackBerry Beta Zone today. A few readers let us know that RIM sent out notifications for the update that seems to have happened yesterday. The new version is 6.0.1.25 but this time RIM does not make any mention about users of BBM Music not upgrading. Still if you are digging your BBM Music I would wait until we hear report back on if it plays nice with this Beta Zone version of BBM. Here is what RIM had to say about this updated beta:

In this latest upgrade, we’ve focused on bug fixes in platform such as avatar changes in Bridge and enabled a ‘Third Party Application’ discovery system message.

You can pick up the updated BlackBerry Messenger in the Beta Zone here

Survey Finds BlackBerry Developers Make More Money Relative to Android & iOS Devs

Posted: 23 Sep 2011 07:53 AM PDT

wild_west_bank_robbers

A study published yesterday by Evans Data from their biannual Application Distribution survey of 400 developers led to some interesting results. The survey obviously found that developers biggest complaint is visibility for their apps in flooded app stores. They also found that games tend to be the most common "App" though what was truly interesting was their results when it came to the bottom dollar.

From their results Evans Data found that 13% of BlackBerry developers make over $100,000 from App World apps which they say is "considerable more than Android or Apple developers and will help that platform to continue to be compelling to developers especially in the enterprise." On the other hand there are obviously not as many BlackBerry developers so it looks like the successful ones are doing well.

Highlights from the survey include:

  • Paid apps with no ads is the monetization model more developers use followed by subscriptions.
  • Games are the most likely type of apps to wind up in app stores, with 27% placing that type of app in a store, followed by business apps at 21% and productivity apps at 20%.
  • Visibility for their apps is the biggest complaint that developers have about app stores in general with 37% citing this as the biggest problem.
  • Google's Android Market is the most used app store amongst commercial developers with 47% of commercial developers having some experience with the store compared to 43% who have used Apple's App Store

The full details of the report are sadly under lock and key beyond the Press Release but I am sure we will hear more as it is distributed.

Kudos to Lucas @N4BB for spotting this one. I thought the press release was spam in my inbox based on the title. :)

Freemium Bubble Ball Game With 35 Free Levels

Posted: 23 Sep 2011 06:50 AM PDT

Don let us know about a slick game for BlackBerry smartphones called Bubble Ball by SolverLabs. Its a fun physics game where you need to get the bubble to the end goal using wood and metal pieces that act differently. The game is a freemium model with 35 free levels and 33 paid levels to test your skills. Its definitely a challenging game that will occupy some free time.

You can pick up the freemium version of Bubble Ball in App World. They even released a similar Orange Escape version of the game that seems to be the same thing with oranges.

Bestbuy.ca Discounts Playbook by $100.00 effective today

Posted: 23 Sep 2011 05:51 AM PDT

** Update*** We knew this was coming.  Following on the heals of the exclusive Rogers Employee sale on the Playbook, we have bestbuy.ca starting their Playbook sale today.  Looks like they are chopping $100.00 off all models and then giving you an instant $100 credit.  Bringing the 16GB in at $299.99.   While not as good as the Rogers offer, its better than nothing.

16 GB Playbook

32 GB Playbook

64 GB Playbook

I have been hearing rumors that many companies are starting their sales today.  Seems logical that RIM would let them start the sell off AFTER the $100.00 back to school sale ended yesterday.

Here’s hoping to slightly better discounts from other retailers!

Navita Sports BBM Integration Shown Off in Latest Commercial

Navita Sports ad

After a long string of BBM commercials and ads for the last few months RIM has followed up with promotions for BBM connected apps. The latest posted by RIM on their YouTube channel is for Navita Sports promoting its BBM integration. I like the commercial but they seem to be missing a call to action at the end…
