T-Mobile Coupon Offers 30% Off One Accessory in Stores

T-Mobile 30 percent off coupon

I am not sure if I can recommend getting any accessories in a brick and mortar wireless store due to their markup but if you need an emergency charger, dock, case, or such this could be worth checking out. T-Mobile sent out a tweet this weekend linking to a coupon that offers up 30% off one accessory in stores. It is valid until January 31st so no need to rush into the store.

You can find the coupon here from this tweet. Thanks Tashanna for the tip via TmoNews

RIM’s Former Indonesia Chielf Also Named a Suspect in 9790 Launch Craziness

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 08:37 PM PST

BlackBerry Indonesia Event

The drama surrounding the chaos and kerfuffle from the BlackBerry Bold 9790 launch and discount in Jakarta, Indonesia continues. Ron Ish pointed out an update in The Jakarta Globe indicating that RIM's chief executive in Indonesia, President Director Andrew Cobham who has since left that post, has been named a suspect in the investigation. They did not arrest Cobham since his negligence only carriers a 9 month maximum jail time. Either way RIM has already made Rohilesh Singh their Indonesian Managing Director as of last month.

Still it is pretty crazy that a discount for the first 1,000 purchasers of BlackBerry Bold 9790 caused such mayhem. So far they have already named the mall's head of security – Markus; the event organizer – Erwin; and RIM security consultant Terry Burkey on negligence charges. They have also demoted the Poliece Chief Comr. Hando Wibowo for issuing a permit for the event without knowing the size.

The question is how far will this go. I know Indonesia is a huge growth market for RIM so they have quite a bit hanging on their success in the country.

T-Mobile Docs Confirm Carrier IQ Baked into My Account App on Latest BlackBerrys

Carrier IQ FAQ T-Mobile

This Carrier IQ debacle keeps on getting worse. First we had RIM and many more carriers denying having anything to do with the Carrier IQ application and then providing more details. While most of the concerns users have with Carrier IQ are non-issues on BlackBerrys due to the built in security its still interesting to see how far T-Mobile is now trying to distance themselves from the company.

Update: A few more details scored by TmoNews confirming the devices Carrier IQ is on

T-Mobile has put up an official FAQ about the Carrier IQ app on their website (thanks Jon!). It does not provide much detail but TmoNews scored a full internal FAQ that provides way more details. According to their docs the Carrier IQ app is bundled into the My Account app on BlackBerrys. The Carrier IQ app works on the latest Bold 9900, Torch 9810, and Curve 9360 along with Android devices. They clearly spell out that the BlackBerry support is "less robust" than Android with less information available. Customers also need to accept the permissions to allow Carrier IQ to collect and transmit data while it works out of the box on Android devices.

Check out the images below for the details. Personally I would be uninstalling any My Account apps ASAP…

iSpeech Translator is Latest Free App in RIM’s Outage Gift Catalog

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 10:39 AM PST

iSpeech Translator

Tomas let me know that RIM has dropped another app into their free "Thank You Gift" category in App World. They promised that they would release these apps and it looks like this might be the last on their list. This latest app is iSpeech Translator Pro which is not bad but still does not hold a candle to Navita translator or FancyTran.

Either way you can pick up iSpeech Translator Pro in App World free at this link

BlackBerry PlayBook Dingleberry Root Exploit Scheduled to be Released Today

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 10:21 AM PST

DingleBerry release tweet

Don let me know that Chris Wade posted on his Twitter account that he plans on releasing the Dingleberry PlayBook root exploit today. Just as a reminder this is the same root exploit (aka Jailbreak) we have been hearing about for awhile so it should be interesting to see what comes of it. I am not as excited about the security as I am about the ability to poke around the PlayBook OS 2.0 beta and see what we can find under the covers. Devs have never really been allowed to poke around in the core OS of any BlackBerry device so this should be interesting…

Stay tuned for the update on www.dingleberry.it
