5 FREE Mega Sound Apps by S4BB released

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 01:02 PM PST

The team over at S4BB let us know today that they just released not one, but FIVE new FREE apps for the BlackBerry devices. With the release of the line Mega Sounds, it allows you to make your device blast out various kind of sounds based on the different themes. As per norms with new apps, this app is BBM connected.

Built with a cool and stylish user interface design with the matching color/design scheme for different themes, these apps lets you transform your phone in a shaver, or wake up your friend up with an annoying alarm tone or even ring your way through a crowded mall. Available for devices running OS 6 and above, this could be one a few rather fun app to have!

Besides, it comes with a variety of flavors which include:

  • Race Car
  • Alarm
  • Bicycle Ring
  • Scream
  • Shaver

The Mega Race Car makes your phone sound like a passing Formula 1 car at full speed; the Mega Alarm makes your phone turn into a crazy alarm clock, allowing you to wake up a friend and/or family member with this loud, obnoxious sound. The Mega Bicycle Ring turns your phone into a bicycle ring which you could use on your rounds on your bike around the neighbourhood, whilst the Mega Scream creates a chilling scream that is targeted to scare people. Finally, they have the Mega Shaver, which of course, mimics the sound of your shaver.

Sounds interesting? Grab them for FREE now at the BlackBerry AppWorld:

Hold Off on Upgrading to BlackBerry Desktop Software v7.0 for PCs

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 09:05 AM PST

Desktop Manager

In case you have been considering updating Desktop Manager on your PC to v7.0 I highly recommend holding off for now. We have been hearing reports of multiple problems with Sync and connections working on the new version. Users who have been calling RIM support have been told to wait a few days for the fix and @Bla1ze has confirmed as much on CrackBerry. If you have upgraded to v7.0 and are having issues you can downgrade by downloading the older version from carrier sites like T-Mobile here.

Let us know what you have been experiencing!

How to (Sort Of) Get LinkedIn Installed on your BlackBerry 7 Device

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 08:50 AM PST

LinkedIn Bold 99002 LinkedIn Bold 9900

Update: Sergey let us know that this workaround originated from his post on LinkedIn. Kudos for finding it!

I have been hearing from a few readers who are upset that LinkedIn has not continued to support the latest BlackBerry devices with their mobile app. Personally I find that their mobile app has always sort of sucked but their mobile website is actually greatly improved. If you still have a hankering for their app installed on your phone David let us know that you can install it directly from LinkedIn by bypassing their check for supported device. It more or less works on my BlackBerry Bold 9900 with a few annoying glitches in the interface because of the higher resolution screen.

If you wish to live a little on the wild side feel free to download LinkedIn directly from your BlackBerry browser by using this link and let us know how it works!

Plants Zombies

I am not sure why EA and PopCap decided on starting off selling Plants vs Zombies for the PlayBook for different prices internationally but that has been reverted. We told you that EA was charging $6.99 in the US, Canada, & Japan and $4.99 everywhere else in the world. Now quite a few readers have let us know that EA has changed the pricing to reflect a $4.99 price across all countries.

Let us know if you notice it change again! You can check Plants vs Zombies out for yourself below:

Best Buy Canada’s PlayBook OS 2.0 Page Hint at Kindle & Twitter Apps

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 07:40 AM PST

Best Buy PlayBook Page

A few readers sent in tips letting us know that Best Buy in Canada has posted up a new Coming Soon page for the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 launch. The most interesting part was spotted by Lucas @N4BB who noticed that the website text mentions a Twitter app along with an Amazon Kindle app for the PlayBook. Amazon was supposed to release a Kindle app for the PlayBook ages ago but has been really quiet on that front recently. We cannot tell if the Twitter app is just the unified inbox integration we have already been shown or a full blown Twitter client like the PlayBook Facebook app.

Plug in to BlackBerry App World and read, write and game like never before. With thousands of apps for every use, you'll never run out of new and exciting options. Pick up Angry Birds or Cut the Rope, read the latest magazines, or connect online with Facebook and Twitter apps. With access to Kobo and Kindle, you can enjoy new late night reading without ever leaving your living room.

And the options for entertainment don't end with apps. Connect to the BlackBerry Video Store and hook up with blockbuster movies and first-run TV shows on demand, then watch them on the vibrant, HD display of your tablet. There's even a built-in HDMI connection to plug your PlayBook into your big screen TV when you want to enjoy movies at home.

Also of interest is the fact that the ad mentions that you will be able to read the latest magazines which once again hints towards Zinio launching soon on the BlackBerry PlayBook. We have been teased with Zinio quite a few times and RIM has confirmed that it is coming in OS 2.0. Also of note is that RIM is highlighting that you will be able to watch both "blockbuster movies" and "first run TV shows on demand."

Check out the Best Buy Canada website for yourself here

MyOwnHotKeys Lets You Create Your Own Keyboard Shortcuts

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 06:01 AM PST

MyOwnHotkeys MyOwnHotkeys2

Over the years there have been quite a few apps that let you create your own shortcuts but now we have a gamechanger. The latest comes from Foneware which is also the developer of the popular ShortcutMe app. Their new MyOwnHotKeys app lets you also change the default hotkeys on your BlackBerry to whatever you want and also set shortcuts for multiple presses. That means you can override the default keyboard shortcuts set on your BlackBerry and also setup multiple keypress actions. For example, you can set one click on the M key to open up messages, double click to open Memopad, and triple click to open Maps, and even quadruple click to open up Google Maps. Get the picture? If I am not mistaken this is a first for any BlackBerry hotkey app.

You can find MyOwnHotKeys in App World for $2.99
