Free PlayBook App Manager Lets You Manage Your Apps From Your Browser

Posted: 07 May 2012 02:31 AM PDT

PlayBook App Manager

I am always happy to see developers pushing harder against RIM's walled garden of limiting PlayBook apps to only RIM approved apps unless they are sideloaded. The latest such effort is PlayBook App Manager by George J. It allows you to easily manage your PlayBook apps and add apps yourself from your Chrome or Firefox browser on your PC. I even checked it with my BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha and it works like a charm. The Chrome extension works much better but George has also kindly offered instructions for Firefox though the experience is subpar compared to Chrome.

PlayBook App Manager allows you to easily sideload apps from your browser. It also allows you to uninstall current apps, launch them, or terminate them from your browser. Check it out with all of the instructions at http://gridbook.org/pb-app-mgr/. Kudos to George for the great tool!

Thanks Mark for sending this one in via OSBB

Loads of More BlackBerry 10 Details Leak in Screenshots!

BlackBerry 10 More Pictures5

There is still not much confirmation on the validity of these screenshots but they look to be genuine. My jaw keeps dropping further so I had to share them. Kudos to Biggulpseh on CB Forums again for scoring these. I am just loving the lock screen tilt move and the unlock screen. This also explains the homescreen four tiles I was shown when I was at BlackBerry World and Thorsten had on stage.

BlackBerry 10 Screen Sharing & Native Twitter Client Screenshots?

 BlackBerry 10 Screen Sharing

Raj and Luis pointed out a thread on CrackBerry forums while I was eating dinner that really got me excited! Biggulpseh posted some screenshots he received from a credible source that shows off a new screen sharing feature coming in BlackBerry 10. It lets you share your screen during video calls like Skype and other apps allow you to do. The pictures are also showing off a native version of Twitter for BlackBerry which is also looking really slick!

According to that same source the 10" PlayBook has been scrapped and RIM is sticking with a 7" size for now. They did say another 10" device may be on the way but didn't have much in terms of details and it did not seem to be a tablet. Also mentioned was the fact that the 4G PlayBooks are on schedule to release next month and will come with BBM installed on them which may mean an OS update for us all.

They left off by saying that the first BlackBerry 10 phone will be the BlackBerry Colt 2 which is the phone with the metal edges and sharp corners we saw in the past as the London with another physical keyboard device in the works. I think they mean this one:

BlackBerry London

Lets start up the rumor mill!

Future BlackBerry 10 Device Names Found in BlackBerry 10 Alpha Devices

Posted: 06 May 2012 11:07 AM PDT

Lucas from N4BB just posted a nice Sunday read,  some findings from J Duke of OSBB going through the BlackBerry 10 file system on the developer alphas, that were handed out last week.  It shows the internal names of the upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices.  It is stated that the information can be viewed by typing file:///radio/etc/sv.numbers in to the browser bar on the alpha devices.  Device names after the break.

  • # R044 – Nevada 0x8400270A,1
  • # R051 – Winchester2 LTE 0x0c001a06,1
  • # R052 – Winchester2 HSPA+ 0x0d001a06,1
  • # R053 – Winchester2 LTE HSPA+ 0x0e001a06,1
  • # R061 – Colt 0×04002307,1
  • # R072 – London 0×04002607,1
  • # R073 – Blackforest 0×04002706,1
  • # R084 – Nashville 0x8500270A,1
  • # R085 – Naples 0x8600270A,1

Above is  the list of device names used internally by RIM.  The Colt is the alpha device received by devlopers, and the London as we have seen rumoured is a revision of the Colt.  Blackforest has been predicted to be the unannounced 10″ PlayBook, while the Winchester2′s being 3G and 4G models of the current 7″ PlayBook.  Some devices we have no information on are the Nevada, Napes and Nashville.

It is great to see people tearing through the dev alphas and letting us know what is coming in the near future for BlackBerry.
