The only official F1 Timing and Track Positioning App, from Soft Pauer, is now available for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Demonstrated at last week's BlackBerry World event, the app includes an array of great features and over 130 hours of live racing action, making it a must-have for any Formula One fan.
It is more than just a timing screen; it provides access to the all the minutiae of a race weekend, from free practice on a Friday to the live race on a Sunday afternoon, and all for less than £1 per race weekend.
"We are pleased to introduce the BlackBerry PlayBook to the Formula One experience and give F1 fans another platform with which to enjoy the sport," said Soft Pauer's chief technical officer Alex Powell, speaking about the latest addition to the portfolio of devices that can run the app.
Each and every race in the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship is brought direct from the track to the tablet in less than two seconds and represented by both live 3D tracking maps and via a selection of live leaderboards and timing screens. Live Pause allows users to quickly replay action, while a vast database of information on the whole season can be accessed at any time.
Great features include up-to-date tyre information as choices are made, the inclusion of DRS zones and all the latest F1 news as well as real-time track positioning, live timing data and more.

Union Brings Smash Cops to the BlackBerry PlayBook

Posted: 10 May 2012 02:49 PM PDT

smash Cops smash Cops2

While I was at BlackBerry World Union helped bring this very slick BlackBerry PlayBook game to App World. Smash Cops is a highly addictive but sadly short game where you chase down criminals while trying not to run over pedestrians and other cops through traffic. The game is really fun and will have you hooked almost instantly.

Features include:

  • PURSUE! Take down runaway felons whilst avoiding civilian traffic and buddy police as you chase and weave through traffic.
  • ESCAPE! Escape under time pressure from felon attack and get to a call out location as quickly as possible.
  • CHALLENGE! 4 different mini games: smash a load of cars illegally parked in a car park, weave through a course laid out by cones, dodge traffic on a highway and collect evidence throughout the city.
  • GROUND BREAKING CONTROLS! By placing your finger behind the car you can steer, weave, defend and attack runaway felons with full control of your vehicle, never before used in touch racing games.
  • LARGE DRIVABLE CITY! Huge city with high quality visuals creates a fun and rich environment for different attack and escape routes spread over 20 missions and 5 vehicles.
  • CHAOS AND MAYHEM! Smash, crush and flip felon vehicles. Obliterate the street scenery.

Check out Smash Cops for $2.99 in App World. You can also find their cross platform demo video below:

Mothers Day Theme Sale

RIM is running another promotion in App World with a focus on Mother's Day this time. They have 12 ale7714 Designs themes for only $0.99 for the next week or so. Some of the themes are compatible with the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 which is nice. I know theme devs are really waiting for Theme Studio 7 to create solid BlackBerry 7 themes.

Check out the Mother's Day themes on sale in App World here. Kudos to @AlexKinsella & Jenny for pointing this one out!

Devs: Macadamian Slick Cascades Built BlackBerry 10 App Source Code Released

Posted: 10 May 2012 08:42 AM PDT

Macadamian

Developers who wanted to dig past the built in samples RIM has provided for Cascades in the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK need look no further. As promised during BlackBerry 10 Jam, Macadamian has released the source code for the demo app they created that shows the social networking buzz for two teams using both Cascades and OpenGL. That means you can now poke around and try out some of the more advanced Cascades use cases for yourself.

Check it out on GitHub

New BlackBerry Curves Get Free Nobex Radio Premium With FM Tuner in South America

Posted: 10 May 2012 07:53 AM PDT

Nobex Radio FM Tuner Nobex Radio FM Tuner2

It looks like RIM is making an interesting new value proposition with their latest BlackBerry Curve 9220 and 9320 along with the previously released BlackBerry Curve 9360. The promotion seems to be limited to South American countries and is offering a free copy of Nobex Radio Premium. That gives you over 16,000 stations in more than 100 countries over Wi-Fi or cellular data. What i found most interesting is that the new app integrates with the new FM radio in these devices.

If you happen to have a BlackBerry Curve 9360 (or even a 9220 & 9320) then head on over to App World to pick it up.

Devs: RIM Details Two Possible Updates for Bringing Native SDK PlayBook Apps to BlackBerry 10

Posted: 10 May 2012 06:55 AM PDT

BBW12_GeneralSession_6

RIM detailed this nicely for developers at BlackBerry 10 Jam but I think it is worth mentioning for the larger developer audience. Russell Andrade posted on the RIM DevBlog about two possible changes that BlackBerry Native SDK for Tablet OS developers may have to make to bring their apps to the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK. These changes are very minimal and one of them only applies to devs using the low level windowing framework in the NDK. Russell reiterated that one of RIM's priorities has been to ensure that native SDK apps transition with minimal hassle to BlackBerry 10.

The two changes that may be necessary for developers are:

  • Multi-Icon Support – This was necessary to support different screen sizes and allow developers to provide more than one icon size and splash screen depending on locale and resolution of the screen.
  • Querying for Orientation – RIM has improved the process for developers querying which direction the device is currently rotated to. The old method is still supported on the PlayBook but you need to use the new method on BlackBerry 10.

Check out all the details laid out by RIM here

Free Xen Qilox Premium (Jezzball Style) Game for BlackBerry Smartphones

Xen Qilox Xen Qilox2

I am not sure how many of you remember playing Jezzball back in the day but if you do I would recommend checking out Xen Qilox Premium. Xen Qilox by Ajani InfoTech has the same concept of where you need to capture 75% of the playing area while avoiding the bouncing enemies. They will try to cut into the trail you leave behind you as you close off the play area. Each level adds two more enemies adding complexity. Either way Xen Qilox Premium is a great way to waste some time!
