BlueBox (DropBox Client) for BlackBerry PlayBook Updated to v1.2 Posted: 15 Jun 2011 02:13 AM PDT Right now BlueBox is leading the pack in terms of cloud solutions for the BlackBerry PlayBook. While I am waiting for SugarSync to get their act in gear Mariano Carrizo has been consistently updating the free DropBox Client PlayBook app BlueBox. Nick let me know that this new version brings a nice new user interface which makes it easier to navigate. I am sure there are a few other fixes and improvements but you can pick up the free updated BlueBox app in App World now and see for yourself. RIM Talking BlackBerry PlayBook Enterprise Security on Tomorrows Webcast Posted: 14 Jun 2011 02:20 PM PDT
I know quite a few companies that are curious about what makes the BlackBerry PlayBook an "Enterprise Ready Tablet." While BlackBerry Bridge is a great kickstart to get enterprise adoption RIM has been trying to address security as an integral part of the PlayBook solution. Tomorrow RIM is scheduled to be giving a webcast on BlackBerry PlayBook Security as the fourth installment of their Enterprise BlackBerry Innovation Webcast series. The webinar will be held tomorrow, June 15th, at 2PM EST. While I am hoping they will also talk about BES management and IT Policies for the PlayBook and not the smartphone I am not sure if they will cover it. If you manage to get on the call make sure to ask them! You can sign up for the webinar and find out more about the whole series at this link If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Kindle for PlayBook: News (of a sort) Posted: 14 Jun 2011 12:16 PM PDT Way back when the PlayBook was announced Amazon said they will be supporting the Kindle bookstore on it. So far that has yet to materialize but in my regular quest for news about a PlayBook Kindle release, I came across this recent thread in the Amazon Kindle support forums.
While it’s no date, it finally gives (a sort of) confirmation that a Kindle app is coming for the PlayBook, and hasn’t been silently abandoned. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

This new update brings a is a bug fix version from the change log and sadly does not bring spoke turn by turn directions. Joel was kind enough to send along the change log from the announcement: New features of BlackBerry Traffic v2.0.1 include:

Free Hungry Kitty Childrens Game for the BlackBerry PlayBook Posted: 14 Jun 2011 10:39 AM PDT Keeping in the spirit of PlayBook games for kids Franz let us know about his new free childrens game Hungry Kitty. The game is a simple matching game where kids match two fish of the same type and color to feed the kitty. The animations are kind of cool and the price is right. The game also keeps it nice and simple which is good for getting kids into games. Truthfully it could get harder but I didn't have any kids around to test it out on. Check out Hungry Kitty in App World at this link If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Some Slick Father’s Day Gift Ideas Posted: 14 Jun 2011 10:37 AM PDT I know everyone already owns a BlackBerry therefore, I am suggesting a few alternatives to get your Dad for Father's Day. Since the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and other devices are not out yet and the BlackBerry PlayBook may be out of your range here are some mid-range items I recommend:
Check them out below! Remember Amazon has some pretty fast shipping so you should be able to order these as late as Thursday or Friday and still get there in time! Braun 7 Series When people think of what to buy a Dad a shaver always comes to mind. What people don't realize is how many electric shavers are on the market and how different everyone is. The Braun 7 Series has now become my favorite. Just by the way the shaver was packaged in the box I knew I was going to enjoy the shaver. In the past I have used rotary shavers because I found that foil shavers are not comfortable. The Braun is built very well to adapt to your face. There are 3 different settings depending on how sensitive your skin is to the electric shaver. Another found love is how quick it takes to shave. A usual shave is now cut down by 5 minutes compared to my rotary shaver. The LCD screen displays the battery life and the hygiene level, telling you when the shaver needs a cleaning. I would have liked if the levels were numeric and not a bar level as it can be confusing. Now, talk about always having a clean shaver!! The clean system is amazing. After each shave you place the shaver facing down in the dock and device tells you the level of hygiene and if you would like to activate the cleaning system with a touch of a single button. As most Electronic Shavers, the trimmer is ineffective. I am still waiting the day that they can build a shaver with a good trimmer. So if you're debating what to get Dad don't hesitate and buy him the Braun 7 Series. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Magellan 3065 This GPS has it all. Enough said! Ok you want details……….An Ultra-wide 4.7-inch touch screen, highway lane assist, lifetime traffic alerts, OneTouch favorites, AAA TourBook and Bluetooth. My favorite feature is the AAA TourBook. Easily finds recommended hotels and restaurants and other points of interest. The best part is you don't even need to be a member to enjoy this bonus. Linking the Bluetooth wasn't as easy as I would have thought, but once linked it was amazing. All my contacts appeared on the GPS device to allow easy dialing and receiving of phone calls. The Multi-destination Routing really rocks! I am always in new areas making a few stops. With this feature you can plan a trip and the device will optimize it for the most efficient route. People always ask why do you need a GPS when you have one built in to your BlackBerry. Well if you ever use the Magellan 3065 you would not be asking that. Yes some features you will have on a phone but this All-In-One GPS is a must buy. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ V-Moda Crossfade LP These cans are the real deal. Just to open the box you need to cut a red ribbon. Out comes a semi-hard case with the most comfortable headphones. The memory foam ear cushions easily fit over the ear so it’s comfortable to wear them for hours at a time. The headphones comes with 2 audio cables, that actually look and feel like a shoe lace. Basically making it impossible to tear the cables. I challenge you to try, it ain’t going to happen. One is a standard cable and the other has a remote/mic cable that is functional with the latest BlackBerry phones. The construction on the headphones also impressed me. These are made out of a light weight metal built to last, unlike other headphones I have had that are all plastic and broke several times. All that is great, but the real question is how good is the sound? Well I was not disappointed as the sound features a patent pending 50mm Dual-Diaphragm High-Definition Drivers. Which is crystal clear on the low keys and wide ranges. I also did not have to blast the music to isolate the surrounding noise. Unlike most devices that give off the same effect the Crossfade LPs does not have the use of batteries. What I like about V-Moda, they did not need to name the headphones after a rapper to promote their headphones. Most probably your father would not have heard of the rapper anyways. Their product speaks for themselves. So buy a pair for your Dad and he will really enjoy them.

T-Mobile Offering New Customers 1 Year Free 200MB Data for Fathers Day Posted: 14 Jun 2011 07:59 AM PDT T-Mobile has a pretty slick promotion going on for Fathers Day. They are offering all new customers and existing customers who are more than 18 months into their contract a nice data perk. They will be reimbursing customers $10 for the first 12 months of their contract which is more or less equivalent to the cost of a 200MB data plan. Instead of simply giving customers a free 200MB plan they are actually making this good for anybody with a data plan which is now $10 a month cheaper for the first 12 months. That means customers can choose between getting a compensated 200MB plan or getting $10/month bill credit towards their 2 GB, 5 GB or 10 GB data plan. All in all its a pretty nice promotion from T-Mobile. Check out the details in the press release below or at this link: T-Mobile Celebrates Dads With Free Data For A Year On June 18, customers who sign up for a qualifying unlimited plan or mobile broadband plan will get $120 in savings BELLEVUE, Wash. — June 14, 2011 — In honor of Father's Day, T-Mobile USA, Inc. is celebrating, once again, with a compelling offer that will reward customers all year long. On Saturday, June 18, for one day only, customers who sign up for a new qualifying talk, text and data plan will get 12 months of free data. That means customers will be worry free when surfing the mobile Web, staying in touch with friends via social networking, or checking their email. And, with a growing portfolio of affordable 4G smartphones to choose from, families can find the perfect gift for dad — or themselves — this Father's Day while saving money and staying connected on America's Largest 4G Network™. "T-Mobile is making it easier than ever for busy dads and families to keep in touch," said John Clelland, senior vice president of marketing, T-Mobile USA. "With our already affordable unlimited plans, and an exceptional lineup of 4G devices, families will see savings for a year when they step up to a richer mobile data experience." The Father's Day free data offer is available to new customers and existing customers with 18 or more months of contract tenure who purchase a qualifying unlimited talk, text and data plan, including 200 MB of high-speed data, on a two-year contract. These customers will enjoy $10 in monthly bill credits for a year — equal to the price of the 200 MB data plan — for a total savings of $120. Alternatively, customers can choose from T-Mobile's other unlimited talk, text and data plans, including the 2 GB, 5 GB or 10 GB high-speed data plans — all featuring no overages fees — and receive the $10 credit on their monthly bill for 12 months. In addition, customers who activate a qualifying mobile broadband plan on a two-year contract can also receive a $10 credit on their monthly bill for 12 months. Information about these plans, the T-Mobile 4G Mobile Hotspot, the 4G-enabled T-Mobile G-Slate™ and other mobile broadband products can be found online in the mobile broadband section of T-Mobile.com. The Father's Day promotion is available nationwide on June 18 at participating T-Mobile retail stores, national retail operators and online. More information about the offer is available at T-Mobile's deals site and information about T-Mobile's new unlimited plans is available at T-Mobile.com. Plan features and limitations may vary. Ode to the BlackBerry Bold 9900 (aka: Dear RIM, wtf?!) Posted: 14 Jun 2011 07:55 AM PDT I accidentally tempted one of our readers this week to write a poem on why RIM should give her a BlackBerry Bold 9900 now instead of making her wait. The dare worked out and Ashley whipped up a nice Ode to the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to vent a bit of her frustration. I know the feeling since I want this device in my hands now instead of later. While playing with it at BlackBerry World I could not help but feel like my dream of a 9000 style device reborn has finally come. Let us know what you think of Ashley's late night work. Better yet see if you can top her lyrical rant.

RIM Also Working With YOU i Labs Design Firm? (Designers of HTC Sense UI) Posted: 14 Jun 2011 06:25 AM PDT If you have ever used an HTC device including their older Windows Mobile phones you may have seen HTC's slick Sense UI. GigaOm is reporting that RIM is working with the Ontario design firm YOU i Labs which helped work on the HTC Sense UI. The deal seems to be some sort of "significant partnership" between the companies. This is the second Canadian design firm we have positive confirmation RIM is working with after Teknision assisted in the designing the PlayBook UI. According to GigaOm Teknision and YOU i Labs work closely together. Add this together with TAT (The Astonishing Tribe) and it seems like there is a big overhaul to the RIM user experience coming soon… Any guesses what is coming? Hopefully we will be hearing about a UI framework for the BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK soon too. Check out some of YOU i Labs work at youilabs.com Thanks to ofutur and my wife for sending this one in! If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Slacker Radio Gets Small Update to v4.0.765 Posted: 14 Jun 2011 05:54 AM PDT It has been less than a month since Slacker updated their app to 4.0.736. Now we have heard from few readers that Slacker has updated the app again to v4.0.765. This update looks like it is cleaning up bugs but I am hoping they fixed the issue where it is always waiting for a network connection in the new version even with cached content.
