SayIt updated to 1.2.0, now BBM Integrated. Posted: 03 Feb 2012 02:00 AM PST BachKhoa University just let us know that SayIt is now upgraded to 1.2.0. They have added BlackBerry Messenger integration. And here is also another treat, a video of SayIt launching computer applications. The computer server for SayIt is still under development, but BachKhoa University is working hard on improving the app.. You can grab your copy of SayIt in AppWorld. Video after the break. Note: Constructive criticism is welcome by the developer as it is still in development, negative comments do not help. Please remember, this app is made my a one man team, and not a group of specifically hired developers. The more we support the app, the more we will see out of it. Updated: easyChat Google Talk Client Beta for the BlackBerry PlayBook Posted: 02 Feb 2012 02:40 PM PST Update: It looks like the developer has decided to charge $0.99 for the honor of beta testing his app. Not sure why they changed it from the previous free price.
I guess good things come in twos. We just mentioned one third party Google Talk client for the PlayBook and now BBNews.pl noticed another one. Benjamin Bezine has released a Definitely check out easyChat If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Official BlackBerry Music Store Powered by 7Digital Comes Out of Beta (Canada & Australia) Posted: 02 Feb 2012 01:17 PM PST RIM is continuing with their odd rollout of their new BlackBerry Music Store. They put out a beta in the Beta Zone for BlackBerry Music store in Canada and now they have released it in Canada and Australia (kudos to BBEmpire for noticing). This music store is powered by 7Digital and seems to simply be a rebranded version of the 7Digital app. On the other hand RIM still has their Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry music app for users in the US, UK, Germany, and France. I am not sure what the deal is between the two but at least users of BlackBerry Music on the PlayBook (which is powered by 7Digital) can use the same account and access their 7Digital music locker between devices. Either way check out the BlackBerry Music Store app in App World if you live in Canada or Australia Features include:

Match.com Survey Says BlackBerry Users Less Slutty but Drink More Often on First Dates Posted: 02 Feb 2012 11:32 AM PST
I am not sure what to make out of Match.com's latest survey of 1,068 Canadian singles done by Zoomerang. They found that 48% of BlackBerry users have had sex on the first date compared to 62% of Android and 57% of iPhone users. This came across again when 47.6% of BlackBerry users said they have had a one night stand compared to 50% of iPhone users and 55% of Android users. They also found that only 50% of BlackBerry users were the most active visitors of dating sites compared to 58% of iPhone and 72% of Android users. On the flip side 72% of BlackBerry users were the most likely to drink alcohol on the first date. I have been married for a but I still find this unscientific study fun to think about. Still I am wondering if its not a bad thing to be drinking alcohol on the first date… Especially if you are out to dinner or a pub/club. Here are the details from VentureBeat scored from the Canadian Press/Match.com:

Dev Releases Unofficial Google Talk & Facebook Chat PlayBook Apps Posted: 02 Feb 2012 10:55 AM PST
Update: As Shane pointed out to me you can simply use the native Facebook app to do Facebook chat for free though I still want to see a Google Talk client come out officially. (Better yet Google Maps!) I am waiting for Google or RIM to release their own Google Talk client for the PlayBook. If you are tired of waiting and using the web clients you may want to check out Scott Greenberg Design's new Client for Google Talk and Client for Facebook Chat. They seem pretty bare bones but functional. The Facebook chat client has been out since mid-November but Thom let me know that the Google Talk client just launched. Either way they are unofficial clients so buyer beware. If you want you can check them out in App World: If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

RIM Taking Android Development Seriously with FREE PlayBooks Posted: 02 Feb 2012 09:16 AM PST It was tweeted by Alec Saunders that Android Developers who submit their app to AppWorld, and then email developeroutreachprogram@rim.com can get a FREE PlayBook. We saw RIM Do this a little over a year ago before the PlayBook was released with BlackBerry Developers, and it looks like they are doing their best to lure in Android Developers now too. If you develop on the Android platform you can find more info and tools here, the deadline is February 13th, 2012. It is interesting to see pushing to fill app world with apps before it officially launches PlayBook OS 2.0. If you are android developer this offers a potential to not only get a free PlayBook, but also give your application more exposure. Free Jotsy Document Annotator Beta v2.0 Released for the PlayBook Posted: 02 Feb 2012 07:26 AM PST Terrence noticed that Jotsy has updated their public beta of Jotsy for the BlackBerry PlayBook to v2.0. In case you don't remember when we mentioned the original beta Jotsy allows you to annotate PDF documents on your PlayBook and is free for a limited time. It synchronizes your annotations and documents with your PC through their "Cloud." The cool part of Jotsy 2.0 is that it brings synchronization of your PC to your Box.com accounts. This allows users of Jotsy to annotate any PDF document that has been uploaded to their Box.com account from their Mac, PC, Email, or other device. Essentially this extends Jotsy to work with anything on Box.com which has clients and interfaces with many other services and devices. Features contained in Jotsy 2.0 include:

Amazon Now Selling the PlayBook 16GB Model Directly for $199 w/ Free Shipping Posted: 02 Feb 2012 06:49 AM PST Amazon has not really been part of RIM's deep discounts of the BlackBerry PlayBook. Their prices have tended to be higher especially since they were mostly sold by third parties. NightFire pointed out to us in the comments that Amazon is now selling the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook model directly on their website for $199. That is a enticing deal since they have free shipping, no tax in most states, and a liberal return policy in case are unsure. SEGA Genesis (aka Megadrive) DGEN Emulator Ported to the BlackBerry PlayBook! Posted: 02 Feb 2012 06:43 AM PST Another day and now we have another emulator for the BlackBerry PlayBook. This new one is for the SEGA Genesis (aka Megadrive) and was done by developer Froggyface. Duke @OpensourceBB noticed the new project (GitHub) and the developer announcing the port on his blog. The emulator port is based on DGen SDL which is a popular opensource emulator for the Sega Genesis. Right now it has some limitations like ROM cycling and zipped ROM support but they are on Trevor Nunes to do list! You can download and sideload the DGEN emulator for the PlayBook from MediaFire and find instructions on Trevor's blog. Keep in mind you will have to "acquire" your own SEGA Genesis ROM files but a quick Google search should point you in the right direction. Let us know if you get it working and kudos to Trevor! Cascades UI Engine and Qt Application Framework Being Covered at DevCon Europe Posted: 02 Feb 2012 05:53 AM PST It looks like we definitely will not be seeing the Cascades User Interface Engine and Qt application framework come out of closed NDA beta before DevCon Europe. As I mentioned before both the Cascades UI Engine and Qt framework are key to more native SDK apps (instead of games) for BlackBerry 10 with a consistent UI. I know a few developers who are using closed betas of the engine and Qt framework seems to be the real clincher. What is truly intersting is that RIM is going to cover both the Cascades UI Engine and Qt App framework in 4 different sessions at BlackBerry DevCon Europe. I really hope they make these sessions public afterwards because quite a few devs are interested to hear what RIM has to say. RIM has touched upon it a few times including a few mentions and displays at DevCon in San Francisco but I want to know more about the features like the Photoshop integration for "streamlined designer-coder workflow." Here are the sessions in case you were interested:

RIM Bringing Some Solid Speakers to DevCon Europe with BlackBerry 10 Focus Posted: 02 Feb 2012 05:50 AM PST
A friend from RIM pointed out to me that RIM is really bringing out a great team to DevCon Europe. I was not sure what RIM was planning since this is their first DevCon in Europe but they are coming out full force. There is a huge focus on BlackBerry 10 with loads of sessions on both current and future BlackBerry 10 topics including HTML5, WebGL, Cascades, Native SDK, etc. There are also sessions on BlackBerry 7 and other topics like making money in general but most of the interesting ones are either relevant or focused on next gen. The other interesting thing about the session topics is that RIM has started to blur the lines between BlackBerry 10 and PlayBook OS 2.0 since one is a lead up to the other. Just to give you an idea of some of the awesome speakers (I just picked some that stood out so this is in no way definitive)
I have not even scratched the surface since these are only the RIM speakers I mentioned. They have tons of other speakers including an awesome panel on Browser Wars with RIM experts along with Bruce Lawson from Opera and Chris Heilmann from Mozilla along with Peter-Paul Koch from QuirksMode.org. Check out the full session catalog at this link If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
