Box for BlackBerry PlayBook Sees 500,000 Users Since Launch Posted: 28 Feb 2012 02:32 AM PST A friend of mine pointed out this little tidbit that Box shared at Mobile World Congress. During a presentation they mentioned that Box has 500,000 BlackBerry PlayBook app users since they launched in September of 2011. That is 16% of their Tablet users which is pretty impressive. Box is one of the first apps to really make a splash on the PlayBook so its nice to see them seeing a nice uptake. Check out their full slide deck from MWC here If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

What Android Apps Have You Sideloaded On Your PlayBook? (My Favorites) Posted: 27 Feb 2012 02:30 PM PST We have been able to sideload repackaged Android apps on the PlayBook for awhile now since RIM first started showing us OS 2.0. Now that OS 2.0 is finally officially available for all and there is no reason not to upgrade I thought I would broach this topic. While RIM has been incentivizing developers to port their Android apps to the PlayBook quite a few high profile developers have not jumped at the opportunity. That has lead to a vast network of BlackBerry PlayBook users repackaging Android apps and sharing them with others. So I thought I would throw it out there. What Android apps have you sideloaded onto your PlayBook? Feel free to share them in the comments! Personally my favorites so far include:
The apps have had their own bugs that developers will hopefully iron out once they see the interest but survivable. As you can see above www.goodereader.com has come out as a great source for converted Android BAR files along with the long standing www.playbookbars.com. Let us know if you have more sources! RIM Releases Details on App World and Carrier Billing Posted: 27 Feb 2012 09:46 AM PST
RIM has been telling the press for awhile that carrier billing has really taken off in App World but now at MWC they have shared some more details. RIM now has 40 carriers around the world signed up for carrier billing in App World. This is out of the 164 markets and territories that now have App World. RIM also shared that there are now 60,000+ apps in App World and over 174 million apps are downloaded every month. That has made the counter hit 2 billion downloads since App World opened its doors. You can check out the full press release below but it looks like carriers are liking RIM's approach with Carrier billing. According to RIM's data
Integrated Carrier Billing Gains Momentum on BlackBerry App WorldCarriers Experience 120% increase in BlackBerry app downloadsBARCELONA, SPAIN–(Marketwire – Feb. 27, 2012) - Mobile World Congress -Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) today announced that more than 40 carriers around the world have now deployed integrated carrier billing for their customers on BlackBerry App World™. Carriers offering integrated billing on BlackBerry App World include:
BlackBerry App World is now available in 164 markets and territories worldwide. More than 60,000 apps are currently available on RIM’s app store and over 174 million apps are downloaded each month. Over two billion apps have been downloaded to date. The deployment of integrated carrier billing is an example of RIM’s ongoing commitment to work together strategically with its carrier partners and it has proven to drive significant value for the whole mobile ecosystem, including carriers, developers, content providers and customers. Integrated carrier billing enables a user to purchase apps or digital goods (such as the additional chapters of an e-book or additional levels of a computer game) without interrupting the user’s app experience. They can simply charge the purchase to their regular monthly bill, and both one-off and recurring (subscription-based) purchases are supported. Data suggests that customers’ propensity to purchase apps on BlackBerry App World increases when carrier billing is offered. After implementing carrier billing on BlackBerry App World, carriers on average experienced a 120% increase in BlackBerry app purchases by their customers, with 65-70% of their customers’ purchases being transacted through the carrier. Dario Talmesio, Principal Analyst, Informa Telecoms & Media, said: "There are clear business benefits for mobile operators when implementing carrier billing, since it enables them to build upon existing billing relationships with customers. RIM has always adopted a strategy of working constructively with operators. It follows therefore that implementing carrier billing through BlackBerry App World represents a rich opportunity for carriers." Ronjon Nag, Vice President, App World & Intelligent Systems at RIM, said, "We’re delighted that many of our carrier partners around the world have recognised the value that integrated billing provides, by making it easy and convenient for customers to purchase BlackBerry apps. RIM remains committed to continued innovation in the way we align with our partners in order to best serve customers while providing a profitable platform for the whole mobile ecosystem." Free Trial of Angry Pigs & Angry Pigs Seasons Smartphone Games Available Posted: 27 Feb 2012 07:44 AM PST Update: This is a free trial of Angry Pigs and not all the levels! Sorry for the confusion. Over the weekend we received quite a few tips (Thanks everybody!) about SolverLabs Angry Pigs now being available in a free version. As far as I remember the game has actually been available free since January and has hit App Worlds top 100 free apps list a few times since. Still it is worth noting that both Angry Pigs and Angry Pigs Seasons (the sequel) are both available free in App World. They are pretty fun and entertaining if flinging pigs around is your thing! Check them out at: If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Asia’s Biggest BlackBerry Store Launches in Jakarta Posted: 27 Feb 2012 06:35 AM PST We learned from VVIANews (Thanks Andrew) that Asia was about to get its largest BlackBerry Store and now it is officially here! The new store is in Gandaria City in Jakarta and is 149 square meters. It has the full range of BlackBerry products and accessories and trained staff. Also of interest is a BlackBerry Expert Center to offer after sales service since all sales come with a warranty. The store was opened by PT Teletama Artha Mandiri (TAM) and seems to be promoted by RIM since they are growing tremendously there. CrackBerry scored some pics of the store (via Tekno Up) along with the launch announcement. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
