Timr Time & Mileage Tracking App Updates to v3 With New User Interface Posted: 25 Apr 2012 02:03 AM PDT
Over the years we have mentioned Timr a few times as one of the leading time and mileage tracking apps with online integration. They let us know that Timr has recently undergone a drastic overhaul bringing it to v3 with a brand new visually appealing user interface. This update was developed from scratch according to Troli Software and also includes new features like analysing tracked time records on the go. There are now more than 60,000 users using Timr and the app has been downloaded over 400,000 times in 25 countries on 4 platforms. Check it out for yourself at www.timr.com with a free 30 day trial or in App World. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Google Drive Already Works With Files & Folders on the PlayBook Posted: 24 Apr 2012 02:59 PM PDT Many of you may have heard that Google launched their new cloud storage solution Google Drive today with 5GB free for all users. The Innovatology crew let us know on Twitter that they tested their Files & Folders PlayBook file manager app with the new service and preliminary testing shows that it works like a charm. It seems like Google has simply extended the Google Docs standard and API to also encompass the larger Google Drive. Its nice to see that Google Drive will probably work with apps that already support Google Docs. Check out Files & Folders in App World. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Control Traffic On Your PlayBook With Traffic Master (Marmalade SDK) Posted: 24 Apr 2012 12:14 PM PDT It has been awhile since my last Marmalade SDK game fix. The latest game that they have assisted in porting is Traffic Master by Spiel Studios. This game is similar to others I have played where you control traffic by managing the cars so they don't crash. It has its own special quirks that make it stand out and is definitely a game worth checking out. You can find Traffic Master for $1.99 in App World If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Free Tomb Escape Mimics Temple Run Gameplay on BlackBerry 7 Devices! Posted: 24 Apr 2012 12:07 PM PDT
You may have noticed iOS users addicted to the game Temple Run recently. SolverLabs has decided to capitalize on that success by releasing a very similar 3D game called Tomb Escape that runs on some BlackBerry 7 devices. My guess is it needs the latest BlackBerry 7 devices for the 3D graphics and tilting game action but who knows. The game is totally free and runs nicely on my 9900. It is also compatible with the Bold 9930, Porsche P’9981, and Torch 9810. I am not sure why the 9850/9860 is not getting some love but hopefully it will soon.
Check out Tomb Escape free in App World. Kudos to Jason for sending this in via PocketBerry If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

RIM Releases BlackBerry Curve 9320 Simulator & Updates Others Posted: 24 Apr 2012 11:26 AM PDT I am really liking that RIM is finally being more vocal when it updates its developer tools. They announced on their blog and sent all App World vendors that a brand new device, the BlackBerry Curve 9320, is coming soon. RIM has released the specs and a simulator for the device running OS 7.1.0.405 which is newer than any OS out there so far. They have also updated quite a few other simulators in the list below:
Check out the full specs for the yet to be released device here If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

We got Angry Birds Space, but what’s coming Monday? Posted: 24 Apr 2012 08:25 AM PDT I didn’t read in to this, as we got the ‘huge’ news that Angry Birds Space is now available to use PlayBook owners, but I got an email from a colleague who noticed Jeppsson is hinting towards something big on Monday. Now that we know it isnt Angry Birds Space, what are we hoping for? If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Have a Pink Elephant Prance Around Your Homescreen with Pet Elf Posted: 24 Apr 2012 06:59 AM PDT
I am still trying to wrap my head around why you would want this but based on two friends recommending it I decided to mention it. MMMOOO has released Pet Elf – Cute Mobile Peppy which is essentially a pink elephant that thinks it is a reindeer prancing around your homescreen. You cannot interact with peppy but his 3D movements are pretty funny. It also does not seem to slow down my device which is nice.
Check out Pet Elf in App World. It seems like it is free for a limited time but let us know what you find. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Devs: RIM Releases Gameplay 3D Opensource Cross Platform C++ Game Framework Posted: 24 Apr 2012 05:51 AM PDT RIM's Gaming division is really putting on the full court press when it comes to attracting game developers. Now Sean Paul Taylor, Team Lead for Gaming R&D at RIM, announced that they have released their new v1.2 of their open source cross platform C++ game development framework Gameplay. I am not sure if this development is coming to RIM via an acquisition but its pretty cool that RIM is pushing their own totally opensource 3D gaming framework. I thought at first that it might have come from RIM's Scoreloop acquisition but this version does not have Scoreloop integration yet… Check out a demo of one of their games in development made using Gameplay: Either way Sean let all devs know that together with Steve Grenier he is trying to make sure gaming on BlackBerry 10 is at the top of the game. His team has been porting all of the leading open source technologies to BlackBerry 10 and this is just one more prong in that effort. According to him:
Current features in gameplay
New features in gameplay v1.2
The 'next' feature branch for v1.3, v1.4, v1.5
Check out the code and samples at our BlackBerry Github page and let me know what you're working on. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
