BlackBerry Bridge Updates to Solve Predictive Text Bug Posted: 30 Apr 2012 08:31 PM PDT BlackBerry Bridge Just received an update to v2.0.0.30 and it promises to fix the predictive text issue some users were experiencing with the last update. Usually a BlackBerry Bridge updates signals a PlayBook OS update. With RIM also kicking off BlackBerry World with the keynote tomorrow morning we are hopping for a PlayBook OS update. That maybe wishful thinking but I am hopping that is the case. To grab the latest update hit the links below or hit ALT+RST on your BlackBerry while in App World to refresh the cache. Thanks to Tom, and everyone else for sending this in. More Great Games Heading to the PlayBook Posted: 30 Apr 2012 05:09 PM PDT It seems Anders still has more in store for us PlayBook gamers! Today he announced over twitter about some hot new titles coming soon to an AppWorld near you! Some of the new games coming include 5 titles from Halfbrick such as Jetpack Joyride. We have SEGA dropping Sonic 4. And other titles such as Smashcops by Unity, GlitchSoft bringing Star Marine, and Fishlabs releasing Galaxy on Fire 2. Now there was no exact dates or timelines for these upcoming titles, but as most of us who do a lot of gaming on our PlayBooks, they cant come soon enough. Slide Shows NewBay SyncDrive Running on PlayBook & BlackBerry? Posted: 30 Apr 2012 04:59 PM PDT One of RIM's acquisitions that I cannot wait to hear more about is NewBay. They are a huge white label brand for cloud services that tons of carriers including AT&T and Verizon use. Until now they have not had much traction on BlackBerry but it looks like that will change soon. While wandering around the BlackBerry solutions showcase tonight I spotted this interesting slideshow about NewBay. It did not show much that I did not know before except for one slide at the end that showed a basic UI for NewBay's SyncDrive service on the PlayBook and a BlackBerry smartphone. In case you don't know what SyncDrive is, it simply allows you to sync your media and other files across devices and even access it from their web console. It also allows you to automatically backup these files from your devices into the cloud. This is just one of NewBays services and I am hoping many more will be coming. I wonder if RIM will be announcing something around this at BlackBerry World tomorrow… For all I know these are just mockups so take this with a grain of salt. RIM Announces New BlackBerry Music Gateway Accessory With NFC Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:46 AM PDT RIM announced today that they are updating their hugely popular BlackBerry Music Gateway accessory with a new version. The new version carries the same name but also adds in NFC (Near Field Communication) for devices that support it. The device lets you stream music from your BlackBerry smartphone, PlayBook, or any other Bluetooth enabled device to your car or home stereo. They will be showing it off tonight so we will have more pictures. Features include:
The device seems to have grown in size but its not really intended for portability so I am not sure how big of a difference it makes. The new BlackBerry Music Gateway will begin shipping in June 2012 and will be available on www.shopblackberry.com for $49.99. Now all I am waiting for is one that will allow me to stream the Audio AND Video contents of my PlayBook to my TV over Wi-Fi… If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Updated: RIM Behind “Wake Up” Protest at Sydney Apple Store? Countdown to BlackBerry 10 Launch? Posted: 30 Apr 2012 08:58 AM PDT Update: TheZMan pointed out that the JavaScript code for the page actually points to 6 May 2012 14:59:59 but does not specify a timezone. That is in about 6 days which has me wondering. Keep in mind this has still not been verified to be coming from RIM.
Yesterday one of our tipsters pointed out to me that some sources were speculating that RIM may be behind an interesting form of "marketing." In all the craziness around BlackBerry World I missed the news that a bus parked outside a Sydney Apple store and protested asking customers to "Wake Up." It was a creative form of advertising but most assumed it was done by Samsung as guerrilla marketing for their Samsung Galaxy S III phone until Samsung denied it to SlashGear. Check out the Wake Up Teaser page here (http://wake-up-australia.com.au/) that is counting down to a little past noon on July 2nd. Now MacWorld AU is thinking that it may be RIM behind the staged marketing protest. They found what seems to be RIM's Australian Doubleclick account number is the page source code for the WakeUp site. They also say that Blunty, the blogger who happened to be at the store during the event, has also done work for RIM in the past leading up to the PlayBook launch. Even the all black outfits and signs seem to fit with RIM's previous style. This is all speculation for now but who knows and it is fun to speculate. Last but not least MacWorld received an anonymous tip saying that BlackBerry OS 10 is set to launch on July 2nd at 12:30PM PDT. This is with the Wake Up timer counting down to that date on Monday. If you did not see the Wake Up protest check it out below:

Twitter for BlackBerry gets updated to 3.0.0.24 Posted: 30 Apr 2012 08:32 AM PDT Some Monday morning goodness as everyone is heading towards BlackBerry World and BlackBerry Jam. RIM has updated its official Twitter client to 3.0.0.24. Here is a list of changes: • Fixed error preventing some users from launching app As for morstAppWorld updates, it might take a while for things to reach everyone, but I find going in to My World and pressing Alt+R S T followed by a battery pull speeds things up. Get your copy in AppWorld. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Porsche Design P’9981 Gets Official OS 7.1.0.342 Posted: 30 Apr 2012 08:06 AM PDT Porsche Design P’9981 users were left out of recent OS 7.1 updates. We heard they were coming soon and now they have been released courtesy of Mobily. They have version 7.1.0.342 available at the link below listed as the BlackBerry Bold 9981. Download OS 7.1.0.342 for the Porsche Design P'9981 from BlackBerry.com. Thanks Frank for the tip! Warning: This OS will NOT install on any other BlackBerry besides the one mentioned above. If you do not know how to upgrade your BlackBerry OS please start by reading this step by step guide. Don't forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device. Don't forget our usual warnings: do not download and install these updates if you don't know what you're doing. Incorrect procedure or just bad luck could render your BlackBerry inoperative or unstable. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

RIM Using Foursquare NFC for Prizes At BlackBerry World & BlackBerry 10 Jam Posted: 30 Apr 2012 07:59 AM PDT If you are attending BlackBerry World 2012 or BlackBerry 10 Jam I would recommend downloading the latest Foursquare v3.9.1 update we just mentioned. It adds NFC support if you have an NFC enabled BlackBerry. This is key because according to Foursquare RIM is going to be using the NFC sticker tech at both conferences to win prizes. RIM has been running social media contest for awhile now but its fun to see it expanding with NFC. Download the latest Foursquare update free in App World just make sure it shows v3.9.1 If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Foursquare v3.9 Adds NFC, Inbox Notifications, & More Posted: 30 Apr 2012 07:48 AM PDT Quite a few readers let us know that Foursquare has released a nice update to their BlackBerry app this weekend. The new update does improve the BlackBerry app experience with some nice tweaks along with improvements to make the app faster and improve GPS logic. My favorite is that they have added notifications to your BlackBerry messages inbox. They have also added NFC features allowing you to share places and tips to BlackBerry and Android devices or check in using NFC. Check out the latest Foursquare in BlackBerry App World! Live At BlackBerry World 2012 & BlackBerry 10 Jam in Orlando Posted: 30 Apr 2012 07:34 AM PDT Its a pretty exciting week for BlackBerry users with both BlackBerry World 2012 and BlackBerry 10 Jam going on. I landed in Orlando yesterday morning and got to see some of the magical world of Disney before getting down to business. Tim and I will be covering both BlackBerry World 2012 and the first ever BlackBerry 10 Jam developer event this week. It looks like we will be learning a ton more about BlackBerry 10 and other improvements including Mobile Fusion. The hotel is still pretty quiet for BlackBerry World with most attendees so far being RIM employees, close RIM partners, and attendees taking certifications and such. I cannot wait to see what RIM has in store for us! PS: I took these shots last night after dinner while no one was around. Today it is already starting to fill up which reminds me I need to go register… If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
