RIM Pulls Screenshot of Native PlayBook BBM App World Page…

Posted: 07 Sep 2011 02:32 AM PDT

PlayBook BBM Screenshot

The plot thickens. It looks like we have some fans at RIM who decided to pull down the screenshot we mentioned yesterday on the App World page showing Native BBM for the PlayBook in App World. I found it odd that the screenshot had BBM with a 3/5 star rating if it was a mock up so I am guessing it was real. Now it just shows a screenshot of multitasking on the PlayBook. :)

Thanks to everyone who pointed the takedown out!

BlackBerry Bold 9788

I guess this is RIM giving the BlackBerry Bold line a blast to the past. They have announced the new BlackBerry Bold 9788 together with China Mobile today. Its the first BlackBerry to support the Chinese TD-SCDMA network though I cannot quite make out what device it is. It looks like it is a rebuild of the 9700 for China Mobile since it has 256MB of RAM instead of the 9780's 512MB. Its also shipping with BlackBerry OS 6.

Check out the press release below or the BlackBerry Bold 9788 page on RIM's China website if you can read it! Either way it is coming this month.

Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9930 Out of Stock

If you needed any indication of the pent up demand for new BlackBerrys this should tip you off. First T-Mobile reported on their website that their BlackBerry Bold 9900 was out of stock (now back in stock). Now Sprint is reporting on their website that they are out of stock of the new BlackBerry Bold 9930. I wonder how supply is at Verizon? You also have to love the overall rating of 4.6/5 from 16 reviewers on Sprint's website.

Thanks JD and Tashanna for sending this one in via BBEmpire

Rumor: Neil Sainsbury to Possibly Replace Mike Kirkup as Director of Dev Relations @RIM

Posted: 06 Sep 2011 09:17 AM PDT

Neil Sainsbury neil-2-mid

It was sad news when we heard that Mike Kirkup would be leaving RIM and leaving his post of Sr. Director of Developer Relations at RIM. Now Kevin @CrackBerry is hearing that Neil Sainsbury (@eZainny) might be stepping in to take Mikes place as a possible candidate for the Director of Developer Relations at RIM. This is a very interesting move since Neil was a very popular BlackBerry developer out of Australia before he was snapped up by RIM a few years back. He developed the BBSmart applications like the uber popular BBSmart Email Viewer, BBSmart Shortcuts, & BBSmart Alarms and others. He was very vocal about BlackBerry development and talked from a developers perspective on his DevBerry.com blog about how RIM could improve developer relations. He then moved on to work for RIM and eventually moved to Canada.

It would be very telling move if RIM placed him in the developer relations role since he clearly knows many of the pain points RIM can fix for developers to improve their experience. Hopefully whomever RIM chooses can make some serious waves and Neil definitely fits the bill.

Screenshot of Native BlackBerry PlayBook BBM App World Page?

Posted: 06 Sep 2011 07:54 AM PDT

PlayBook BBM Screenshot

Could it be that RIM is leaking a screenshot of the native version of BlackBerry Messenger for the PlayBook on their App World landing page? BBEmpire noticed this screenshot on the bottom of the RIM App World page and it sure looks like the BlackBerry PlayBook App World showing a BBM app for installation. The screenshots might be from the Bridge BBM app but the uninstall button hints that it is actually the BBM native app. Oddly the version of the app is 1.0.7 which will probably change drastically when native apps come and what is with that license key? Let us know if you can make out anything interesting in the description. The squinting is hurting my eyes…

Nikolaus let us know that DropBox has released an updated version of their BlackBerry app in their forums. New features:
