Free Stop Spamming Beta Junk & Spam Email Filter for BlackBerry Posted: 27 Sep 2011 02:14 AM PDT D8 let us know about Stop Spamming by Infinite Appz which was just released. The free app acts as a basic spam filter for your BlackBerry without a ton of frills especially since it is currently in beta. Its lets you block emails and pin messages in multiple languages based on your settings or one of their categories. The app did not work well on my Bold 9930 but D8 says it actually works well with features like the ability to delete, mark as read, or forward junk mail to another address. You can also customize the filter to specific email addresses that are spamming you. This is great for BlackBerry users who use the @BlackBerry.net email addresses that don't have much spam protection. The Stop Spamming app can also translate emails from one language to another which is nice. You can pick up the Stop Spamming beta in App World for free. Wealthy Cellphone Owners Skew Towards BlackBerrys Posted: 26 Sep 2011 02:43 PM PDT According to a recent survey by Prosper Mobile Insights it seems like wealthy cellphone users tend to prefer BlackBerrys. According to MSNBC, Prosper surveyed 25,000 users for its survey and found that of those with household incomes of $150,000+ the found 11.3% had BlackBerrys. iPhone was not far behind with 10.9% and Android had 7.2%. They took things down a notch with a $100,000 – $149,999 a year category and found that 21.2% had BlackBerrys, 19% had iPhones, and 15.8% had Android devices. In the $75,000 – $99,999 category the stats are much closer with the iPhone taking 19.6% compared to BlackBerrys 18.7% and Androids 18.2%. When things dip below $74,999 but above $50,000 then Android takes the lead with 23.7%, iPhone racks in 22.4%, and BlackBerry takes 21.2%. Last but not least they had the $35,000 to $49,999 category with 14.3% having Android, 12.6% having BlackBerrys, and 12.5% having iPhones. Some interesting stats to say the least with RIM taking the lead in the high end and still showing reputable numbers throughout. They also obviously found that apps are not as prevalent with BlackBerry users. Oddly they asked BlackBerry users about Angry birds which is not even available on BlackBerry… Check out the details at MSNBC and let us know what you think in the comments! Jobs In Motion App for BlackBerry & Android Helps You Find RIM Jobs Posted: 26 Sep 2011 02:26 PM PDT I am not sure if this is an official RIM app but they did manage to get into App World. AllTheBananas.com released a BlackBerry and Android app today called Jobs in Motion that helps you find a career at RIM. AllTheBananas is a UK job search engine so it could just be a local thing but the app is available in all countries. You can find Jobs in Motion in App World and the Android Marketplace. Its interesting to see RIM reaching out to Android developers again since we know that is one leg of their strategy for QNX and its Android Player. Still I would be curious to see how much traction this gains RIM. Now if only they had the balls to simply call it RIM Jobs in Motion… Thanks Terrence for sending this one in via BBCool If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Former RIM Director Mike Kirkup Laments BES vs BIS BlackBerry Experience Posted: 26 Sep 2011 01:50 PM PDT Long time RIM exec Mike Kirkup left RIM recently from his role of Director of Developer Relations after 10 years. He is actually quite positive on RIM's prospects but Tom pointed out an article Kirkup wrote today about "three reasons I miss my corporate managed BlackBerry." In the post Kirkup details how different the enterprise BES experience is from the consumer BIS experience. We have been telling RIM this for ages and they seem to finally be getting it with the Gmail integration. Still its sort of crazy to think that many of RIM's developers do not fully understand the traditional consumer BlackBerry experience when evaluating the BlackBerry solution and improving it. Mike Kirkup laments the lack of instant email delivery and PIM sync along with global address book lookups. Many developers have tried to step in and fill in the gaps like RIM has with Gmail & Yahoo sync but it looks like RIM may finally get it with the first QNX powered superphones. It looks like RIM will finally introduce a traditional IMAP and ActiveSync client in the devices which should alleviate most of the pains Mike ran into when moving from BES to BIS. Still should RIM be forcing their employees to use BIS so they understand what its strengths and limitations are? I am really curious to learn what all of you think about Mike's experience! Simple Mobile Offering $50 & $60 BlackBerry Unlimited Plans with No Contract Posted: 26 Sep 2011 10:25 AM PDT In case you have not heard of them before Simple Mobile is a MVNO that runs on T-Mobile's network in the US. They just announced two nice BlackBerry unlimited plans for $50 and $60 respectively. The main difference between the two is the $60/month plan gives you access to what T-Mobile and AT&T call "4G" speeds on the latest BlackBerry devices like the Bold 9900 and Torch 9860 & 9810. I am not sure if these new "4G" speeds are worth another $10/month but you can make that decision for yourself. Either way these are pretty solid deals with no contract allowing you to bring your own BlackBerry and get unlimited data. Its great for travelers coming to the US and need BlackBerry service. Check out the details at www.mysimplemobile.com/BlackBerry. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

BerrySync App Brings Mozilla Firefox Sync Bookmarks & Tabs to your BlackBerry! Posted: 26 Sep 2011 07:45 AM PDT The Bespoke IO team really took on a fun project with BerrySync. They have essentially brought many of the features of Mozilla's Firefox Sync technology to BlackBerry smartphones. In case you don't know Firefox Sync is a plugin that Mozilla has bundled into Firefox since v4.0 or so and synchronizes your bookmarks, browsing history, open tabs, and more to Mozilla's servers. BerrySync makes all of that data accessible from your BlackBerry. BerrySync lets you view your bookmarks, open Firefox tabs, Browsing history, and more and lets you search through it. BerrySync is pricey at $9.99 in App World but hopefully that price will come down. Bespoke IO let us know that they will be launching a site describing the app shortly. You can check out a video of BerrySync in action below: Desktop Video Link | Mobile Video LinkIf you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

FAQ: How to Extend your BBM Music Beta Trial Period Once it Expires Posted: 26 Sep 2011 07:09 AM PDT It is now starting to roll towards the end of the 1 month trial RIM is offering with BBM Music and the Beta Zone app is starting to expire users accounts. The problem is that during the Beta Zone period it is not possible to actually upgrade to a premium account. I ran into this "expired account" a few days ago but after fiddling around it just worked again. I ended up just escaping all the menus and the app worked but AgentBlackBerry over @BBOS was kind enough to write up a simple FAQ on what to do:
Also worth noting is that every month RIM refreshes your count of changeable songs with 25 changes. You should make these changes before you do this because it will reset the count to 25. Let us know if this works for you! If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

UberSocial Releases Uberwarrior MMA Theme for Their Twitter Client Posted: 26 Sep 2011 05:40 AM PDT UberSocial has always had some fun with custom themes for their BlackBerry Twitter client. Their latest theme is for MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fans who can relate to the UberWarrier look. I am kind of digging the style though the red is a big harsh but other than that it looks nice. You will need the latest version of UberTwitter to get this theme to work after which you can easily pick up the theme.
