Most Innovative BlackBerry WebWorks App Winners Announced Posted: 22 Sep 2011 01:34 AM PDT The BlackBerry Partners Fund has announced the winners of the Most Innovative BlackBerry WebWorks app category in the 2011 BlackBerry Developers Challenge. These winners were selected from both BlackBerry Smartphone and PlayBook apps. They selected a grand prize winner and two runner ups for each of the three regions and here are the winners: North America:
Europe, Middle East, Africa:
Asia Pacific:
These apps are not the bread and butter BlackBerry apps since they are not Java or Flash but they do show what can be done with the WebWorks SDK. The winners get a load of free prizes like BlackBerry DevCon passes, PlayBooks, Smartphones, Gift Certificates, and being featured in App World along with being recognized at App World. I am curious to see who wins the Most Addicting Social App Using BBM Social Platform. My guess is Foursquare… Check out the details in the BlackBerry Partners Fund press release or the BlackBerry DevBlog. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Freemium Xploding Boxes v2.0 Released – Adds PlayBook Version Posted: 21 Sep 2011 12:45 PM PDT Ebscer has updated their freemium Xploding Boxes game to v2.0 which offers you the first 25 levels free and the full 215 levels for a $2.99 in app upgrade. This new update adds support for Spanish along with adding a version for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Xploding Boxes is a fun strategy game where you need to start chain reactions to explode the remaining boxes on the screen. Personally I love the game I just wish it had cooler graphics and explosions. Check out Xploding Boxes in App World If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Sweet Iconify App Goes Fremium With 3 Free Homescreen Links Posted: 21 Sep 2011 08:52 AM PDT One of my favorite BlackBerry apps just got a sweet free version this week. EmacBerry has made a new version of their Iconify app that allows you to create 3 links on your homescreen with their own homescreen keyboard shortcuts for free. They are still offering their 15 link and 50 ink premium versions for those of us who need more than three. In case you don't know Iconify lets you create your own custom homescreen shortcuts for dialing or emailing your contacts which automatically updates when you update the contact info. You can also create homescreen links to files on your device or folders if you have FileScout installed. My favorite is the ability to create your own homescreen keyboard shortcut as a hotkey for any app, contact, folder or file. That means you can make any unused keyboard shortcut into your own. Check out the new free version of Iconify in App World by just downloading the trial. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Free Battles on BBM Battleship Clone BlackBerry Game Posted: 21 Sep 2011 07:07 AM PDT The new BBM Social Platform is really helping devs easily create multiplayer BBM powered games. My current favorite is Battles on BBM. The game is more or less a clone of the classic Battleship game and the gameplay is really fun. Definitely worth a download especially at this price tag. Rumor: Quanta Downsizes PlayBook Production Lines in Taiwan Posted: 21 Sep 2011 04:35 AM PDT I am not sure what to make of this thought I did hear rumors about PlayBook production since last week. Digitimes is reporting that Quanta Computer, which produces the BlackBerry PlayBook in Taiwan, has cut down on BlackBerry PlayBook production and has "offered preferential compensation to lay off about 1,000 workers." Quanta specifically setup production in northern Taiwan for the PlayBook with three shifts and more than 2,000 workers which is rumored to now be cut in half. It could be that RIM has already stocked the PlayBook pipeline with a ton of devices that just need to be updated to OS 2.0 when it launches. Still it is not a good sign to have those production lines starting to taper off especially with a global launch and 4G powered PlayBooks supposedly coming soon. This also makes me wonder who is manufacturing RIM's QNX superphones like the Colt or if RIM is doing that in their own factories. Thanks Tamas @BerryBlog for the tip!
