BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0.0.6149 Developer Beta Brings Loads of Goodies! Posted: 15 Dec 2011 09:26 PM PST We are just starting to play with the latest BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0.0.6149 developer beta and you can see that RIM is starting to make some nice changes. My buddy Shahriyar pointed out to me that it supports Bluetooth headsets along with auto correct outside of bridge. He also noticed that it scores a 308 on the HTML5 test site. Keep in mind this update may patch the current DingleBerry jailbreak so if you have been relying on that you may want to wait until we get confirmation one way or the other. Sprint Rolling Out OS 7.1 for Bold 9930 & Torch 9850 – Curve 9350 Coming Soon? Posted: 15 Dec 2011 09:15 PM PST
Sprint has quietly started rolling out OS 7.1 for both the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and the BlackBerry Torch 9850. My guess is that the Curve 9350 will probably follow up but maybe not today since mine is not showing an update. This OS version 7.1 adds Wi-Fi hotspot functionality along with loads of other fixes that RIM finally got around to. RIM Earnings Call Questions and Answers Highlights & Tidbits Posted: 15 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST Hey everyone, This earnings call was ANOTHER tough pill to swallow for us RIM faithful. I cataloged the different items that came up in the Q&A session after the earnings call. Here are the highlights: Here are the highlights:
Overall the tone was very subdued and clearly no one was happy. It will be interesting to see how the aggressive ad campaign in the US of A will change things. I don’t think anyone at RIM is crazy enough to think they can really recapture much market share, but, maybe the a NEW BIG ad campaign, combined with great phone pricing will stop the bleeding a little bit more than if RIM sat back and did nothing. Jim and Mike also gave the impression the discounts on the Playbook will continue into the new year and that they are 100% viewing the Playbook as a development base for the BB10 phones. I agree with this sentiment and I think its an overall good move. RIM is going for broke and their words suggest they want to get it RIGHT this time as opposed to rushing something. RIM Confirms BlackBerry 10 Phones Only Coming in Second Half of 2012 Posted: 15 Dec 2011 02:52 PM PST
RIM just delivered some sad news during the BlackBerry earnings call that is currently going on. Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis confirmed that BlackBerry 10 phones will not be available until the second half of 2012. They say this is because the BlackBerry 10 LTE phones are held up by a chipset that will not be available until Mid-2012. They say this chipset is needed to offer the battery life that customers expect. While some of that is definitely true it is really going to hit RIM hard that they are missing the first half of 2012. The story is still developing so expect more… Thanks Phil for the screenshot! If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
