Free RssDemon RSS Reader With Google Reader for the PlayBook (Android Player) Posted: 19 Dec 2011 09:16 PM PST The Handster catalog we were telling you about is still making its way into App World. The latest app I noticed is two variants of an app called RSSDemon by Meecel. The app has some nice Google Reader integration though it can also be used as a regular RSS reader. I have not had a chance to see how it really stacks up to GeeReader but I like options… Features include:
For some reason the same app seems to have been listed twice in App World by Handster with one seeming to be an older version. Here is the main RSSDemon link in App World and this is the secondary link. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

IM+ officially updated to v10.0 Posted: 19 Dec 2011 08:13 PM PST Shape just updated their latest BlackBerry messenger app, IM+, to version 10.0. This is the new stable release from them on this highly popular app for the BlackBerry Smartphones. As previously announced, Beep was introduced by Shape Services in its Beta version and is definitely baked into the latest version. The way Beep works is by merging your Address Book with your instant messaging client. Everybody on IM+ Beep is using their phone number as their username sort of like how WhatsApp works. Changelog:
Anyway, you can get the latest version from the links below: If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

The Joy of Tech Takes Another Stab at Jim & Mike Posted: 19 Dec 2011 08:13 PM PST The financial press has not been very kind to Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis and their comics are showing the same. Jim and Mike are stuck in a sticky situation where they cannot reveal what they have planned for the future (a mistake they have made one too often) while users and investors want to know what RIM has in plan for its future. AllThingsD's Joy of Tech takes on this conundrum this week. Let us know what you think! If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Gmail Adds Scribbles in BlackBerry PlayBook Browser Posted: 19 Dec 2011 07:51 PM PST Google has been introducing a new feature called Scribbles in Gmail starting with their iOS app and now they have extended it to the Gmail website. Google has announced that the new feature is now live on the PlayBook, iOS, and Android browsers. My drawing skills suck but feel free to show off some of your work in the comments! Thanks Tashanna for the tip! via Google via The Verge If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

AT&T Officially Bows Out of Purchasing T-Mobile USA Posted: 19 Dec 2011 06:30 PM PST
It seems like AT&T has taken its ball and gone home. Chances were very slim that their purchase of T-Mobile would ever be approved but AT&T was still going strong. Now they have finally thrown in the towel officially. They do it passive aggressively by saying that it does not change their need for more spectrum immediately. AT&T also announced that they have entered what they call a "mutually beneficial roaming agreement with Deutsche Telekom" whatever that means. They will also recognize a $4 billion pretax accounting charge in Q4 2011 to cover the breakup costs with Deutsche Telekom. Full announcement below: AT&T Ends Bid To Add Network Capacity Through T-Mobile USA Purchase If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

A (simpler) look at the BlackBerrys available in the US Posted: 19 Dec 2011 02:56 PM PST This past weekend the New York Times ran an article on how BlackBerry offers too much choice which results in hurting the brand. The problem however is less with the total number of choices, and more with the confusion around how they are presented. Instead of going to the store and buying a BlackBerry Curve you have to choose between the 9300, 9330, 9350, 9360, and 9370. For those of us that know the (minimal) differences between these models the choice is easy. For everyone else, they shouldn’t even know that the choice exists. The good news is that within the United States the situation isn’t actually all that bad, with carriers in the US avoiding the more pointless models (9380, 9790, and 9981). Currently they are only offering a total of 15 models that fall neatly into 4 product lines (Torch, Torch Slider, Bold, and Curve). The below image is designed to show the current offerings in as simple a view as possible. As a developer, referring to different devices by their model numbers makes things easier, but knowing these details shouldn’t be required in order to buy a phone. Lets reduce the model numbers to the small print, because it doesn’t need to matter. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

SnowBomber Free & Premium Game for the BlackBerry PlayBook Posted: 19 Dec 2011 12:47 PM PST esDot has released free and premium versions of their SnowBomber game that should get you into the holiday and winter fun. The game pits you against the Evil Fluffs that have invaded the city with snow trying to make it permanently winter. SnowBomber has you shooting the fluffs away in what they dub to be "Angry Birds + Fruit Ninja." The lite version gives you free access to some of the levels and tries to upsell the premium $1.99 version of SnowBomber. You can pick up both in App World: If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Free XWeather Free & Pro Weather App for BlackBerry Smartphones Posted: 19 Dec 2011 09:57 AM PST We mentioned XWeather as a solid BlackBerry weather app awhile ago but since then it has made its way into App World. The app lets you setup a custom homescreen weather widget which is nice with quite a few options. Its not as fully featured as apps like BerryWeather but its worth checking out since it packs a nice set of features. It also has a premium Xweather Pro version without ads and more features for $2.99. Features of XWeather include:
You can find both versions in App World: If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

BBM Music v1.1 Update in Beta Zone for Canadians Posted: 19 Dec 2011 08:28 AM PST
I am not sure why RIM limited this Beta Zone update of BBM Music to Canadians but hopefully a larger rollout is coming. This new v1.1 improves upon quite a bit of the apps features including some much needed usability tweaks. RIM really needs to keep on improving the app and service especially now that it is free in the US for 4 months! Here is the change log scored by TwistMyMind @BBOS: What's new in BBM Music 1.1?: Payment Enhancements

Twitter for BlackBerry Gets Small Update to v2.1.0.28 Posted: 19 Dec 2011 08:18 AM PST For those of you who use Twitter for BlackBerry as often as I do you probably saw a new update notification today. Dan pointed it out to me when it updated to v2.1.0.28 which is just a small update to the previous version and after digging a bit Bla1ze @CrackBerry noticed that this version seems to just be an update for BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Pearl users with this in the change log:
You should be able to find the update soon in App World If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Carrier IQ on 26 Million Sprint & 900,000 AT&T Phones – Sprint to Disable Carrier IQ Posted: 19 Dec 2011 07:41 AM PST
The Carrier IQ debacle continues with the latest US Senate investigation going on. Sprint has responded to to the Senate inquiry saying they have Carrier IQ on 26 million phones and AT&T reported it on 900,000 phones (Senate via BGR). This has prompted Sprint to make the decision to disable Carrier IQ on their phones according to MobileBurn. Its nice to see that the Carrier IQ situation might simply quiet itself down. Until now it has not really shown as a big problem for BlackBerrys but RIM simply said to look for it in the installed applications on your phone where you can remove it. Handster Pushes 50+ Android Apps into BlackBerry App World Posted: 19 Dec 2011 07:12 AM PST
We told you earlier this month that Handster was submitting their Android apps from their Marketplace to App World as repackaged apps for PlayBook OS 2.0. Tim let us know that they have now racked up 50+ apps in App World as of now and more seem to be flowing in. The apps do require the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 but they seem to run fine. These apps seem to be simpler apps for now but you can check them out below: Handster apps in BlackBerry App World If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

QuickPull v5.1 Adds Support for BlackBerry OS 7 Devices but is it Necessary? Posted: 19 Dec 2011 05:50 AM PST
Lars let us know that Steelthorn has updated their popular QuickPull app to v5.1 recently. The new update brings official OS 7.0 support though it makes me wonder. Do you really need an app like QuickPull on the latest BlackBerry 7 devices? In case you don't know QuickPull lets you easily perform or schedule a soft reset/reboot of your device. This was great when memory leaks were all the rage and we had very little headroom but things have gotten much better on BlackBerry 7 devices. Still if you feel like you need a regular reboot you should check out the free QuickPull v5.1 in App World If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
