Slacker Radio PlayBook App Updated to v1.2.6 – Hopefully Fixes Skipping Posted: 27 Mar 2012 01:24 AM PDT Slacker has updated their very popular BlackBerry PlayBook app to v1.2.6 from version 1.1.50. I am hoping this new version fixes the skipping audio and buffering over bridge issues that I have been having but have not had a chance to test it out. Check out the update in App World here. Nexus App Allows You To Share Files Between PlayBooks on the Same Network Posted: 26 Mar 2012 11:32 AM PDT Mario let us know about his new Nexus app for the PlayBook. It allows you to directly transfer files between multiple BlackBerry PlayBooks on the same wireless network. Hopefully this will be extended beyond the local network but until then it works for pictures, music, videos, and documents. Any device running Nexus on your same network will automatically show up in the app. Check out Nexus in App World for $2.99 with a free trial and let Mario know what you think in the forum thread he started. An video demo of an older build is available on YouTube. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Iris, RIM, & HID Announce Support for NFC BlackBerry 9900 as Digital Credentials Posted: 26 Mar 2012 09:38 AM PDT
Iris ID systems is one of the popular iris bioimetric access solutions that currently uses HID Global's iCLASS digital credentials. Now they have announced that Iris systems is interoperable with BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones activated with HID Global's iCLASS digital credentials with iCLASS readers. This is just one more step towards your BlackBerry replacing the HID card many users have to access their office buildings. Check out the full press release below: Iris ID Systems Inc. Announces Interoperability Between Its IrisAccess Platform and NFC-Enabled BlackBerry Smartphones Equipped with HID Global`s iCLASS Digital KeysCRANBURY, NJ. and IRVINE, Calif. – ISC West 2012 - Iris ID Systems Inc., formerly LG Electronics, Iris Technology Division, a leading provider of iris biometric technology, and HID Global, trusted leader in solutions for the delivery of secure identity, announced that the IrisAccess® platform iCAM7000 can be used with select NFC (Near Field Communications)-enabled BlackBerry® 7 smartphones. The BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900/9930 smartphones activated with HID Global's iCLASS® digital credentials will be compatible with the installed base of iCLASS readers that are embedded in the iCAM 7000 series for applications ranging from physical access systems in buildings to applications that track time and attendance, and other identity dependent applications. Using a NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphone, the iris templates of a user are securely stored to an iCLASS digital credential on the phone. That credential can then be presented for authentication by simply holding the NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphone in front of an iCAM7000 series iris camera, just like users do today with a physical iCLASS smart card. Iris ID will demonstrate iCLASS credentials using the NFC capabilities of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone at the ISC West conference, March 28-30, in booth #4043 at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas. Charles Koo, President and CEO of Iris ID Systems Inc. said, "As a long time HID Connect® Premier Partner, we are excited to be part of this new implementation which allows iris technology to be coupled with a NFC-enabled smartphone. This is a key milestone for our identification technology; iris recognition is a perfect solution for providing strong authentication for enterprise security. As we did with iCLASS credentials some years ago, we are pleased to be first in bringing iris recognition biometrics to a host of secure identity dependent access control applications with NFC-enabled smartphones." "This is an important milestone in the deployment of mobile access and identity solutions using NFC technology on smartphones," said Dr. Tam Hulusi, Senior Vice President of Strategic Innovation with HID Global. "NFC-enabled smartphones represent a complementary new platform that we believe will expand the access control market and our card services business while improving user security and convenience." Andrew Bocking, VP Handheld Software Product Management, at RIM, said, "Having added NFC capabilities to a range of our BlackBerry 7 smartphones, we're excited to be able to support the secure storage of an Iris ID biometric template to an iCLASS credential. NFC enables smartphones to become even smarter mobile computing platforms, and this is another great example that demonstrates the potential that NFC on mobile devices brings to the physical access control space." Pilot programs using BlackBerry smartphones activated with iCLASS digital credentials and iris identification are planned for later this year. HID Global expects that its embedded iCLASS technology will be generally available for the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 and BlackBerry® Curve™ 9350/9360 smartphones later this year. Xploding Boxes Updated to v3.2 – 15 New Levels And More! Posted: 26 Mar 2012 09:22 AM PDT I awoke, bleary-eyed and in desperate need of a pick-me-up. I floated semi-consciously through the coffee set-up process, hit Brew, and sat down with my PlayBook to start my morning. Imagine my delight when the first thing I saw was an update for Xploding Boxes!
Xploding Boxes has been updated to version 3.2, adding 15 new levels, for a grand total of 285. PlayBook owners can also take advantage of a new feature: speed adjustment. You can now set the pace of the game to Slow, Normal, or Fast. Slow is, well, painfully slow. It will prolong your suspense, and also your agony. Fast, on the other hand, rushes you to your doom, kicks you in the teeth, mocks you in your defeat, and challenges you to try again before you can finish shaking your bewildered head. I’m hoping this feature makes it to the BB version of the game, because I feel like it runs slower on my 9900 than it does on my PlayBook. We are approaching an entertainment cost of 1 shiny (or maybe not so shiny) penny per level, here, folks. I challenge you to find another game that offers this much replay value and overall bang for your buck. And head scratching. And hair-pulling. And teeth-gritting… Download Xploding Boxes from AppWorld (25 levels free, in-game purchase of $2.99 to unlock the rest, single purchase for BB and PB if using the same BBID) Check out Ebscer’s other great offerings in AppWorld If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
