RIM Giving Away a BlackBerry PlayBook to All BlackBerry World Attendees! Posted: 03 May 2011 03:28 PM PDT You heard that right. If you planned made it to the first BlackBerry World conference you will receive a free 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook. RIM mentioned at the keynote that they blew past the 6,000 attendee mark so that means they are giving away more than 6,000 PlayBooks! Even Expo Only attendees are getting them! Mike Lazaridis announced it as a way to celebrate the first BlackBerry World and the 10th anniversary of what used to be WES. Its a pretty smart move for RIM putting a BlackBerry PlayBook in the hands of every attendee at the conference who will be heading back to their office with one it tow. That means BES admins will be putting them on their network and if a company allows you to install apps you can put on BlackBerry bridge and get going out of the box. Pretty sweet deal! Just think about it. 6,000+ BlackBerry PlayBooks at 16GB with a value of $499 that translates into well over 3 million dollars. Great place for RIM to put their marketing budget! Just look at all those PlayBooks! What amazes me is RIM managed to load them up with OS 1.0.3 for everybody (at least the devices I have seen). Wikitude Augmeted Reality BlackBerry OS 7.0 App Demoed Again Posted: 03 May 2011 03:17 PM PDT We told you about Wikitude's augmented reality app shipping preloaded on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 but it was shown off again today during the keynote. They did not demo it live but showed a slick video of it in action that is better than the screenshots we had to share yesterday. We tried getting a live demo but the demo units were only showing the main screen at the Wikitude booth. Still it looks like a pretty sweet app! RIM Finally Details Features of BlackBerry Balance Posted: 03 May 2011 03:03 PM PDT RIM has mentioned BlackBerry Balance a few times as a solution for employee owned phones but even in their announcement yesterday it was a little light on details. They have corrected that a bit with a new landing page on their website at www.blackberry.com/balance. The new page details how different apps are classified and how they handle the separation of data between work and personal uses. It is kind of cool as a feature but is limited to OS 6.0+ devices on BES (Out now) or BES Express (coming this month) 5.0.3. If you are interested in the solution I would recommend checking out www.blackberry.com/balance or their blog post about the update. Here are some of the details: BlackBerry Balance technology benefits
System requirements To leverage BlackBerry Balance technology, your organization will need the following:

BlackBerry PlayBook Ad Shows its Processing Power Posted: 03 May 2011 02:57 PM PDT RIM has released a second BlackBerry PlayBook ad on their official YouTube Channel. We expected a huge media blitz when the PlayBook launched but it seems like they are taking their time. I have to say the adds are really good, they emphasize the keypoints where the PlayBook outshines the other devices. RIM is is in a giving frenzy they gave a free PlayBook to all BlackBerry World attendees, and I think it is a great strategy to market the device. Check out the video ad below, I haven't seen it on TV yet but if it hasn't am sure it will make it on there soon. Thanks to Tashana, and Kiddo2050 for sending this in. Foursquare and Kobo Demoed With BBM Social Platform Integration Posted: 03 May 2011 02:37 PM PDT During the keynote RIM highlighted two apps, Foursquare and Kobo, which are using the BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform API's to make the apps more "social". The first was an updated version of Foursquare for BlackBerry that is coming out which will let you share your location along with your badges on BlackBerry Messenger. The next thing Mike Kirkup showed off was Kobo which we heard was getting Social Platform months ago but have yet to see actually released. Kobo will let you chat with other people who are reading the same book or read what your contacts say about a book. Both of them require you to agree to share the information in typical RIM fashion. Check them out in action below! 3381 to 3390 If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

TAT Demos Stereoscopic 3D PlayBook Media App! Posted: 03 May 2011 07:59 AM PDT TAT is always pushing the envelope with BlackBerry PlayBook apps first with their scrapbook app that they just released. They continued that trend with a stereoscopic 3D app that plays media and games that really impressed me. Its hard to convey what what happening since you had to be wearing 3D glasses to view it. Still it came out pretty good on my camera. TAT was asked if the app is going to be made public but said that is up to us. Simply ask for just like we did for the scrapbook app. I just want it to be able to view 3D movies on my TV using my PlayBook. The crazy part is I tried playing a 3D movie on my PC and it didn't was jagged and skipped. The PlayBook is playing it at 60fps without skipping at all. BlackBerry PlayBook Android Apps Demoed Live! Posted: 03 May 2011 07:45 AM PDT The good news keep coming! We had RIM on stage at the Keynote showing off the upcoming Android player for the BlackBerry PlayBook. It looks exactly like a native BlackBerry PlayBook app and RIM has setup the gestures to act like the hard buttons found on Android devices. The funny part is that RIM did not even have to ask the developers for the source code to create the BlackBerry PlayBook app. They simply needed to take the installer library and convert it into a PlayBook app. They only had to ask the developers permission before they showed it off live. Our friends over at PocketBerry got a video of the apps running on the PlayBook Crazy stuff right? If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Native Email and PIM for BlackBerry PlayBook Demoed! Posted: 03 May 2011 07:33 AM PDT RIM just showed off the BlackBerry PlayBook native email along with PIM for calendar and contacts. This is native email, calendar, and contacts connected to the RIM NOC through BIS or BES or both! They did not have tasks, notes, and the rest that show up over bridge but they will be coming this summer too. We don't have more than this summer but its nice to see it live in action!!! Sweet Unity Union 3D PlayBook Games Demoed! Posted: 03 May 2011 07:23 AM PDT We heard that Unity was porting their 3D gaming platform the the PlayBook before but it looks sweet in practice. They pulled up one of the games they ported in minutes to the PlayBook and it blew everybody away. It was a samurai slashing game. Classic slashing game but just looked beautiful! They have 4 games including this one coming out this summer. Anybody else excited? They have over 4500 developers from what I remember hearing so that means many more games… If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

VEVO Premium Video App Coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook Posted: 03 May 2011 07:04 AM PDT RIM just announce that a VEVO app will be coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook. The app will bring the entire music videos from VEVO'S library. This is is a good addition to the PlayBook because you will be able to stream HD music videos from your favorite artists. No word on when the app will be available but the way RIM has been releasing apps it could be pretty soon. On a funny side note out of all the videos they decided to show it was a video of Justin Beiber. If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Microsoft Bing to be Preferred BlackBerry Search & Maps Provider – Integrated Into OS Posted: 03 May 2011 06:55 AM PDT My mind is still reeling from this. I thought Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's CEO, would only be talking about their upcoming cloud services but it gets weirder. Steve Ballmer got on stage and said that BlackBerry will be using Bing as the default search engine and maps provider for BlackBerrys in the future. It will be integrated deep into the core BlackBerry OS as you can see in these screenshots. I am not sure what to think of this but let us know in the comments. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, Takes the Stage at BlackBerry World!!! Posted: 03 May 2011 06:33 AM PDT Who would have thought this day was coming? Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer just took the stage at BlackBerry World during the Keynote. Microsoft is going to invest uniquely in the BlackBerry Platform along with the Microsoft platform. Then announced in March that they would have a cloud offering with BlackBerry Services. Live @ The BlackBerry World Keynote! LiveBlog Posted: 03 May 2011 05:48 AM PDT RIM is set to take the stage soon and we will keep you updated here with the latest and greatest announcements. We know that RIM held a few announcements back yesterday during the press briefing so this could get pretty exciting. Let us know your thoughts in the comments. Keep in mind this will be "stream of consciousness" style! We cannot give you the whole experience here since the presentation will be in both 3D and 2D but we will try to capture it in its glory for you!
The 3D presentation is already starting to give me a headache. Mike Lazaridis just took the stage! Its the 10 year anniversary of BlackBerry World (aka WES) They have a special 3D presentation for us… Mike Lazaridis BELIEVES that we are in a transition to personal mobile computing. RIM just shared some serious stats Mike is talking up the BlackBerry PlayBook and its media capabilities “transcending the video camera experience today The biggest roadblock to wide scale rollouts of tablet was loss of data and so RIM solved that with BlackBerry Bridge. The bridge makes tablet deployment safe for widescale deployment across the enterprise. Mike is essentially making the sale again for the PlayBook. Its the same speech he has given a few times but the audience is different. Here he is trying to sell it to businesses and carriers. Doodle Blast was just shown on the stage behind Mike! Mike just announced that Angry Birds is coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook!!! Adobe is on stage showing off all of the things they plan on doing and have already done with RIM. There is definitely some patting on the back going around. Facebook, Adobe, and RIM are really excited to make the Facebook app. They are showing off the app. It was made using Adobe Creative Suite in collaboration between all three companies. Impressive! There are over 3 million flash developers out there and Mike Lazaridis cannot wait to see what they develop. Mike Lazaridis is talking BlackBerry Bold 9900 with its keyboard and everything. Nothing new that we did not hear yesterday but angled more to businesses touching on BlackBerry Bridge being built in. BlackBerry 7 includes great features like layering data with online information kind of like the Wikitude from MobileEasy. Check out our photostream above from Flickr if you want to see pics from the presentation as they are taken! Mike is talking super app again but now talking about super apps from the cloud. Holy crap Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, just took the stage at BlackBerry World. Bing will be the default search provider and map experience on the BlackBerry… WTF? There is an expanding partnership that starting this coming holiday season the BlackBerry experience will have Bing integrated deep into the core of the BlackBerry handset. Microsoft sees opportunities in the integration… Seriously what are these guys smoking? “Making better decisions with Bing on BlackBerry” is their new tagline. Steve things that BlackBerry customers will be excited about these new experiences. Now Steve is talking some random social graph and geo-spacial graphs and stuff like that. He is now moving on to his most exciting part of the presentation. Holy @#$@. Mike Lazaridis just said that everybody at BlackBerry World will be getting a free BlackBerry PlayBook! RIM is going to be doing live demos which RIM has never done at a keynote in 10 years. RIM is showing off the music app by 7 digital We are getting a sneak peak at an application that is coming soon from Vevo with 2500 video streams. They only have premium only video streams serving billions. Sadly they put on a Justin Beeber video… Now they are on to the Podcasts app. Now we have Mike Kirkup talking about the BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform. Foursquare for BlackBerry is getting BBM integration and you can chat inside the Foursquare app based on information from the foursquare app. You can also share your badges over BBM The Kobo Book Store is also getting social integration like we said before seeing who else talked or reviewed the books you are reading. It looks like BlackBerry 7 will be the one getting the social platform. I am not sure if that means BBM social integration will only come to BlackBerry 7 The hits keep coming RIM first showed off the Unity 3D video game platform and then went straight into demo that blew my mind. Really gorgeous games that they say took seconds to port over. They have four more games coming this summer. RIM then showed off the Android player app. It looks beautiful. More on that in the separate post. RIM then showed off the native PIM, email, contacts, calendar that will be coming to the PlayBook this summer. They mentioned that even though they could not show it they will also be bringing tasks, notes, and the rest of the PIM suite. The email client will also be tied into both BIS and BES. RIM is talking business enterprise stuff from IBM and CSC that will probably not interest most of you. Lets see what they have left in store. To end it off we see a sweet steroscopic 3D video demo of a PlayBook media player. They just want users to push the app to be brought to market like the scrapbook app and they will. The app looked sweet and I cannot wait to hook it up on my Samsung 3D tv. A Facebook executive just took the stage. I am guessing she is talking about the PlayBook app but it will be interesting to see what they are talking about BlackBerry being unique. She just doesn’t stop talking… People are starting to fall asleep… OK she finally got off stage. Thats all folks! See you on the flip side!
