With all of the craziness today in BlackBerry 7 announcements the Curve line was sorely underrepresented. Not to be forgotten the BlackBerry Curve 9360 showed up for a photo shoot done by OneMobileRing. There are loads of pictures of the device with its upgraded screen and new 800Mhz processor. Currently RIM has only announced 5 of their 7 planned BlackBerry 7 devices and the 9360 Apollo should be the 6th followed by the touch enabled Curve Orlando or 9790 Bellagio.

Ashley pointed out an interesting article in the forums where the Financial Post interviewed two RIM execs today. They spoke to Patrick Spence, RIM's new managing director of global sales and regional marketing, and Andrew Bocking, RIM's vice president of BlackBerry software about the new announcements today along with quite a few other topics. There is nothing really new being said here but it does help flesh out the story about RIM’s sales and marketing plans.

Leaked T-Mobile Hungary Reseller Slide Shows White Bold 9900?

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 10:35 AM PDT

bold9900 whitejpg

For those of you like me who love the white BlackBerry devices there is a bit of good news in the rumor mill. A Hungarian blog, BerryBlog.hu, caught a leaked screenshot from a Hungarian official reseller showing a T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 in white and black variants. This points to some hope that a white version of the 9900 might come shortly after the black version. Here is to hoping!

Now if only they would do Crimson Red like they did with the Curve 8310… I loved that color.

NA Carriers Confirmed for Torch 9810, 9850, & 9860 – Verizon Suspiciously Missing?

Screen shot 2011-08-03 at 7.29.42 AM Screen shot 2011-08-03 at 7.27.50 AM

In the interviews with the project managers for the BlackBerry Torch 9810, 9850, & 9860 was an interesting bit of information. In it RIM confirmed the North American carriers for all three devices. The regular suspects are there and it does confirm the Torch 9810 as a AT&T exclusive in the USA. Check out the list of North American carriers for yourself and tell me if you see something missing:

  • BlackBerry Torch 9860 from AT&T, Rogers, Telus and Bell
  • BlackBerry Torch 9850 smartphone from Sprint and U.S. Cellular
  • BlackBerry 9810 from AT&T, Bell, Telus and Rogers

Did you notice a big US carrier missing from that list? While Verizon could be holding out to make the announcement themselves we have already seen Verizon branded versions of the 9850. I know for a fact that Verizon is getting the 9930 but after getting the first and second Storm could it be they are not going to launch the redeeming Torch 9850?

BlackBerry Torch 9810, 9850, & 9860 Project Managers Interviewed

RIM posted up a great interview with the project managers for the all touch BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860. They talk about how they made the all touch device and the design inspiration behind it. They also tapped the project manager for the BlackBerry Torch 9810 to talk about that device and how it refined the original Torch.

Very good read all around. Check the interviews out at the links below:

NFC Only Coming in BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9930 OS 7 Devices?

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 06:57 AM PDT

NFC 9900 Tests

I am not sure how we all missed this before but previous spec leaks for the BlackBerry Torch 9810, 9850, and 9860 said that the device had NFC. I noticed in RIM’s announcement this morning that NFC was nowhere to be seen for these devices which had me wondering. So I checked back to the FCC filings for the 9900/9930, 9810, and 9850/9860 and noticed something interesting. When looking over the Test Report for all 3 only the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 had a logged Near Field Communications test performed. The product pages also only list the 9900 as having NFC for "accessory pairing and smart tag reading/writing."

Check out the filings for yourself:

I am not sure why RIM would not want this feature to have parity across all next gen BlackBerry devices but it has me scratching my head wondering why. I know the NFC is built into the battery cover for the 9900 but I just assumed they managed to hide it better in the 9810 and 9850/9860. What do you think of this? I was planning on getting the 9900 (GodBerry) either way but now it makes it truly the flagship BlackBerry.

Rumor: PlayBook Android Player Pushed to "Late Fall" Release?

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 06:28 AM PDT

IMG_00000263

While at BlackBerry World RIM was saying that the BlackBerry PlayBook Android Player would be coming in Late Summer along with the Native SDK. With August being late summer and still no announcement it looks like we may be having a later release for the Android Player. Engadget heard from a reliable source that the Android Player for the PlayBook wont be available in beta form until "Late Fall." With Fall being defined as September through November that could be a few months. That would be kind of sad because the early beta that leaked of the Android Player is actually pretty functional.

This rumor goes against RIM’s official statement about the Android Player leak they made on July 22nd that said:

"An older version of the Android App Player beta software for the BlackBerry PlayBook was inadvertently posted and has since been removed. We recommend that users refrain from downloading and installing this software since it is outdated and non-functional in many respects. The official beta release of the Android App Player for the BlackBerry PlayBook is on track for release later this summer."

So it could be that the beta release is still on schedule but the official release is set for late fall? Let us know what you think!

Now that RIM has finally announced the BlackBerry Torch 9810, 9850, & 9860 we can learn about the official specs. The press release was very light on the actual details but the product pages on the main BlackBerry site are much better. For example did you know the BlackBerry Torch 9810 is coming in two colors grey and silver? I also like how the 9850 & 9860 are labeled "All-Touch." There is quite a bit of good info in there including measurements and battery life comparisons. All three announced BlackBerry 7 lines are now plastered on the homepage of BlackBerry.com and you can sign up for more updates on the product pages. Its sort of interesting to see the key phrases RIM uses to describe these devices on their homepage.

First we had the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 and now we have the vanguard BlackBerry Torch 9810 alongside the BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860. The only weak part about the announcement is that there is no hard availability dates with RIM saying:
