Vodafone UK has the BlackBerry Bold 9900 for Preorder

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 01:36 PM PDT

vodafone UK preorder

While RIM and their partners have mostly been very quiet about a launch date and pricing for the BlackBerry 7 devices it looks like some of the carriers are finally starting to talk. Engadget noticed that both Vodafone UK and the Carphone warehouse have the Vodafone BlackBerry Bold 9900 listed for the UK. Vodafone UK has the 9900 for £41+ ($67) a month plan with a two-year contract to get the phone free. For half of that monthly plan requirement you can get the phone for £399 ($650) upfront. On the other hand the Carphone Warehouse has it for free from £31 per month on Vodafone or £500 off-contract.

Both of them are showing an August 12th date though which is nice to see!

Wireless Giant Device Roadmap Shows Unreleased & Unannounced Devices

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 10:50 AM PDT

Wireless Giant Leaked Roadmap

You have to love how these codenames are being bandied around. The latest leak comes from the CrackBerry crew showing the roadmap from Wireless Giant. This roadmap has the normal devices we have heard about including the BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9930, Torch 9810, and Torch 9850 & 9860 together with some estimated launch dates. What gets really interesting is that it throws in a whole soup of other codenames including the hush hush BlackBerry Cyclone TV device and a Wi-Fi stereo accessory called the Beats and Calpyso. Feel free to speculate in the comments and complain about the estimated launch dates!

Rumor: BlackBerry Colt to be First QNX Powered BlackBerry in Q1 of 2012

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 08:58 AM PDT

BlackBerry Colt photoshop with QNX

We know that RIM is working on some QNX powered superphones for us starting with Q1 of 2012 but we have not heard much about them. The BGR is hearing a new rumor that the first QNX superphone is codenamed the BlackBerry Colt. This same source has the Colt running a single core processor in its current internal testing variant but that may change before release. The source says that RIM is also rewriting the BES code to work with the QNX operating system which they are already doing for the PlayBook. The rumor has RIM working on a QNX specific BES server and the QNX smartphone will not support the current BES versions at launch which makes total sense for a totally new platform. These devices will actually use Microsoft ActiveSync which will be supported out of the box.

This would be a very interesting move for RIM. I have been waiting for them to offer ActiveSync support for ages but it was killed off due to BES. I always wanted it at least for consumers to be able to get full PIM sync without BES. Either way this BlackBerry Colt is on schedule for Q1 of 2012 and the Software Verification team is already well into testing the device.

Things are really shaking up around RIM headquarters… There is even an improved OS 7 making the rounds which I am trying to dig up more on. Until then let the rumors go wild and take all of this with a huge grain of salt!

How to Get Android Marketplace Working on the PlayBook Video Tutorial

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 08:46 AM PDT

Android Player Marketplace

Since we saw the leak of an early build of the Android App Player for the BlackBerry PlayBook there have been quite a few users tinkering with it. We saw some screenshots of it running Android Marketplace but until now there were no instructions. For the brave BlackBerry PlayBook owners who like to tinker there is now a tutorial video put up by HaTaX from CrackBerry forums detailing how to get the Marketplace to work. You already need to have the Android Player sideloaded for this to work but you can find quite a few tutorials for that.

Check out the directions at CrackBerry forums and blog and the instructional video below. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

PlayJabber is a PlayBook Jabber Client for Gtalk, Facebook, & More

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 07:03 AM PDT

While IM+ is still waiting for their PlayBook IM+ client to be approved Arturo managed to sneak PlayJabber by the App World reviewers. PlayJabber is a bare bones Jabber chat client for the BlackBerry PlayBook. In case you don't know what Jabber is then let me explain. Jabber is an open source standards for real time chat that many companies like Google, Facebook, and LiveJournal have use to power their chat clients.

In short that means you can use PlayJabber to chat on Google Talk, Facebook, and LiveJournal from your PlayBook. I cannot promise it will work for you but Google Talk worked for me.

You can pick up PlayJabber in App World for a reasonable $1.99

Unsubscribe Goes Totally Free – Begone Spammers!

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 06:06 AM PDT

Unsubscribe

While I was interested in Unsubscribes service when it came out most users were turned off by the price. Unsubscribe has just fixed that by making their service and BlackBerry app totally free. There are no limit on your Ubsubscribes and you can use your Social Monitor tool to cover you on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. You can sign up now for free at www.unsubscribe.com.

Unsubscribe explains why they had to launch with a paid model and why they are glad to have found alternative revenue sources to make the service free. Its interesting that they make a point of saying they do not sell your data because that is usually how these services manage to stay free. Hopefully they stay that way.

Dear ________,
Unsubscribe.com is now 100% FREE!! You now get Unlimited Email Unsubscribes and our NEW Social Monitor tool, which protects you on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
If you haven’t come back to see us in a while, we’ve made a ton of enhancements. So what are you waiting for? Go to Unsubscribe.com, download the latest software and begin visiting a safer and cleaner inbox, while protecting you on your favorite social networks.
Team Unsubscribe

P.S. If you’d like to know more about why we went free, here you go…

We never wanted to charge for the Unsubscribe consumer service. When we started Unsubscribe.com our cost to handle each customer’s request was considerably high. The only way we could maintain the product was by charging for it- until now. By focusing on technology and building a kick ass team, we’ve managed to significantly lower costs and the result is that starting yesterday, August 4th, 2011, we made the product 100% free to consumers.
So now you’re thinking, "Are these guys free so they can sell my data?" The answer is NO- we do not sell any personal data that we capture through our service. Our mission has been, and always will be, to protect you from companies that are using your data.
"OK, so are you volunteers?" No, we are not. Through testing we have come up with alternative ways of making money, one example that you can see is our certification business.
If you have any questions please contact us at support@unsubscribe.com. In addition, if you have any worries about the details of what we do please check out our privacy policy.
