Asphalt 6 Adrenaline HD2 Asphalt 6 Adrenaline HD

Gameloft released Asphalt 6 Adrenaline HD back in October and it has turned out to be a very slick game. The game was then selling for $6.99 but Kal @PocketBerry noticed that the game has been discounted to $0.99. That is a sweet deal for a great racing game.

You can pick up Asphalt 6 Adrenaline HD in App World for $0.99 for a limited time!

Want Siri on your BlackBerry? Just say it with Say It!

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 02:41 PM PST

We just got an interesting tip that leads us to BlackBerry Developer Group VietNam.  One of their forums users ayotechnology has posted about a new app developed call Say It.  It seems to be in early developement stages, but still worth a try!  You can find out more here.  The page is translated from Vietnamese with Google translate so some of the wording might not be correct.  If you do not wish to read the post and just download Say It, you can with this link. Please note that the download is a zip and not OTA.  You can check out the rest of ayotechnologys’ app in AppWorld under his developer name BachKhoa University.

UPDATE: Lyricidal from @theiexplorers has been nice enough to post an OTA.

Here are a few more screenshots of the commands and the app in action.

Let us know what you think so far below.

Handster Loads 210+ Android Apps & Games for PlayBook in App World

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 01:14 PM PST

Handster App World PlayBook

Handster has continued its mission to load its catalog of Android apps and games to BlackBerry App World. As of this article they now have 210+ apps and games in App World for any users of BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0 on their PlayBook. That is growing from the 50+ they had on December 18th. There are a bunch of useless apps though on the other hand there are some really good ones. For example, WMP – Remote LITE by Martin Aberl is a free remote for Windows Media Player from your PlayBook and this is a free Sokoban game.

Check out the whole Handster Android catalog here

RUMOR: RIM May License BlackBerry 10 To Other Manufacturers?

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 11:37 AM PST

Speculations about RIM these days are floating all over the place, the latest speculations come from a  note to clients by Peter Misek, analyst from Jefferies & Co. On his note Misek states RIM may be moving in the direction of licensing BlacKBerry 10"

We think some of this has already been started with RIM likely agreeing to license Blackberry 10 to Samsung, HTC, and possibly others. This would help create a critical mass for the ecosystem and maintain RIM's monthly service revenue; however, it puts more pressure on the hardware business in the short term. Longer term, it possibly gets people hooked on the RIM ecosystem and may in fact allow them to sell more BB 10 handsets (if they are able to create compelling handsets).

RIM licensing their OS to manufacturers such as HTC, and Samsung does not seem like a good fit, they may encounter delays similar reasons why we haven't seen a QNX powered BlackBerry by now. In the past RIM has tried similar approaches, one is the the BlackBerry Connect, giving other manufacturers access to push technology.  That did not meet the adoption RIM had hoped for.  Some of the supported manufacturers included Nokia, Palm Treo, Sony Eircsson, and Windows Mobile,   you can read more about it here.  With these manufacturers having huge success with the Android operating system it does not seem likely, but at this point it does not seem farfetched for RIM to explore all the options available to them.

Other moves RIM has made in the past at bringing the BlackBerry experience to other devices is the BlackBerry Application Suite. In 2008 and and 2010 we saw some images and even a video of an HTC device running the app. I had a chance to try it and it perform slow but it was eventually scrapped.

So what do you think would this be a good move for RIM or should they just focus on bringing a Solid QNX powered BlackBerry to market later this year?

Word ZigZag Offers Up Boggle-Style Gameplay on the BlackBerry PlayBook

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 09:02 AM PST

Word ZigZag Word ZigZag2

John Hand has released a fun game that brings the classic Boggle to your PlayBook. Word ZigZag offers Boggle style gameplay without the big box. In case you have never played Boggle before your job is to find as many words as you can from the words shows on the screen. You can create the words from letters that are joined vertically, horizontally, diagonally, or "ZigZag." The game sadly does not offer true multiplayer but you can use the game as a sort of virtual gameboard and record your words on paper if you are playing with friends.

Word ZigZag3 Word ZigZag4

Either way Word ZigZag is a great way to pass the time and is available for $0.99 in App World.

Want to add more storage to your rooted PlayBook? Here’s How!

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 08:30 AM PST

Remember the teaser video floating around a few weeks ago with elTecnoBlog connecting a USB Drive to their PlayBook? Well now they have given a set of written instruction for all of the anxious rooters our there.

Ill throw the disclaimer in now, following the instructions that follow can permanantly damage your PlayBook, and BerryReview will not be held responsible if such actions happen.

First thing you will need to do is root your playbook with DingleBerry and obtain a USB OTG cable. You will also need the obvious, a PlayBook and a USB pen drive. The instructions that follow are from @guillemmateos and not of my own.  It has only been tested on a rooted 1.0.8xxx PlayBook, so results with OS2 betas may vary.

Here are Guillem’s instructions:

When you have your USB OTG cable, you can proceed to run the commands to load the necessary kernel drivers. The nice part is that everything is already on the PlayBook, so you don't really need to upload anything. The commands you will need to run are the following:

slay RIM_usbmgr-Winchester
slay io-usb
slay devb-umass
sleep 2
RIM_usbmgr-Winchester -m0s
io-usb -domap4430-mg ioport=0x4a0ab000,irq=124
sleep 2
waitfor /dev/io-usb/io-usb 4
devb-umass cam pnp blk automount=+hd6t6:/accounts/1000/shared/usb:dos,automount=+hd6:/accounts/1000/shared/usb:dos

The only line you really need to pay attention to, is the last one. It shows where the pendrive will be automatically mounted after you connect it. You can specify different mount points for different partitions just separating them by comas (in my example command, hd6t6 and hd6 shown)

The other commands just kill the USB server running and start it with the required commands to be able to run the USB port as a host port. There is also a command to load the kernel driver (io-usb domap….).

Last step – Connect your pendrive

If all went well, you should now be able to connect your pendrive and access contents on the mount folder you selected. Please keep also in mind that you must first create this directory for the automount to work. I also noticed that sometimes the kernel modules does produce a bus error and crashes. If that happens, just try to run all the commands again.

Guillem would also like feedback from other rooters about their success using these instructions and other OS version. I have a feeling this is going to open up a lot of doors and elements of rooting and be very popular in the community.  Chime in and let us know what you think.

RIM Selected as Canada’s Top Business New Story for 2011 by Large Gap

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 07:55 AM PST

RIM Logo

I am not sure if this is construed as both bad and good but The Canadian Press surveyed their editors and broadcaster members to name Canada's top business news story for all of 2011. Turns out the top story was a huge focus on RIM with a huge margin. I doubt that RIM is very proud of this distinction though it does mean all eyes are on RIM so any new coverage could be turned into good coverage.

Here is the breakdown for 2011 stories in Canada:

  • Research In Motion: 37%
  • The Canadian economy: 24%
  • Keystone XL: 13%
  • Personal debt levels: 9%
  • Toronto stock market: 6%
  • TMX takeover: 3%
  • Gold prices: 3%
  • Housing prices: 3%
  • Wheat Board Changes: 1%

Gym Technik Offering Online Personal Trainer with New Premium Plus Plan

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 05:45 AM PST

Gym Technik

Gym Technik likes to stay on the bleeding edge of mobile fitness. They just announced a new Premium+ (Premium Plus) plan for their customers that features an online personal trainer. This upgrade gives you access to a dedicated certified online personal trainer to help you "customize a workout plan based on goals, needs, and access to equipment." The trainer will update your plan every six weeks based on your progress and is available to answer questions through the Gym Technik messaging feature.

This new Premium Plus tier is $24/month paid yearly or $30/month paid quarterly which is not bad when compared to the cost of an actual personal trainer. Its obviously not as personal but its nice to have somebody to ask questions. Current members can upgrade their account to Premium Plus, and new members can register for a free trial, and then upgrade.
