During the course of the eight-week contest the celebrities played an integral role in mentoring, advising, and encouraging their Protégés using the social communication tools on their BlackBerry 7 smartphones.

RIMs Tips for Animated BBM Avatars & BlackBerry Traffic Voice Guidance Posted: 13 Jan 2012 07:43 AM PST This week RIM rolled out a new version 6.1 of BlackBerry Messenger along with an update to BlackBerry Traffic anytime now. One of the nice improvements to BBM was animated avatars but RIM did not give much guidance on what the optimal settings are for BBM at launch. They have thankfully followed up with a knowledge base article that does just that:
RIM has also posted up some tips for those using BlackBerry Traffic who are having trouble hearing the new voice guidance directions on BlackBerry 7 devices. Here is the tip RIM gives:

Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9930 & Torch 9850 OS 7.1 Desktop Install Files Posted Posted: 13 Jan 2012 06:28 AM PST
Tom was kind enough to let me know that Verizon has finally put up OS 7.1.0.163 desktop install files for the BlackBerry Bold 9930 & Torch 9850 on their website. Many people already upgraded to this version via wireless update or other methods but there is a place for desktop install files. Wireless upgrades do not always work for everybody and users on a BES usually have to wait until the carrier releases the desktop install files before their company rolls it out to all users. If you have been looking for them you can find both downloads on the Verizon BlackBerry download site. Tom sent in direct links to the Bold 9930 standard and multilanguage version but you will have to enter in your Verizon phone number to access the 9850 ones for now. AT&T CEO Says Shared Data Plans Are Still Coming Posted: 13 Jan 2012 05:51 AM PST If there is one thing I am hoping carriers do in 2012 it is proper shared data plans. It is starting to get ridiculous where I have three smartphones and a data card on a family plan and each one now has a separate data bucket. Each smartphone has 2GB and the data card has 5GB. It gets even worse if you want to tether to your BlackBerry where you are expected to pony up more money per phone to be able to use 4GBs with tethering. Once we moved off unlimited there is no reason at all that data from a tethered connection should be any different than a smartphone or a PlayBook over bridge. Better yet I want all of my gadgets like my camera and laptop to be able to use that same data bucket without more monthly fees. We have been hearing that both Verizon and AT&T are working on shared data plans but so far we have seen diddly squat. AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega just reconfirmed to AllThingsD this week that AT&T is still working on that "It just takes a little more time than we all would want it to take. But sometimes it's better to make sure you take your time and get it right." What do you think? Are carriers just dragging their feet because they have not found a way to charge us even more for shared data plans? If you liked this article, you might find these interesting:
